Ever Used Plan B?

Y'all might or might not remember that my first post for this site was about Plan B. Plan B is birth control, not an abortifacient (if you have any doubts, go read that post), it's a fucking lifesaver if you've ever had a condom break, gotten lazy with the birth control, or (god forbid) been raped, and basically it belongs in your medicine cabinet.

Light Rail Coyote is an admirable grad student who somehow also works for the Academy for Educational Development and is therefore a better model for engaged academia than yours truly ever has been. In any case, she wrote me to ask if I'd ask you all to please take a brief survey about your use of Plan B if you've used it in the last year and are between the ages of 18-44.

Needless to say, the survey is entirely confidential. You can skip questions you don't want to answer, or if none of the available options is correct. (And there's a comments section towards the end.)

A little more about the AED and the survey itself:

AED, a nonprofit organization, is conducting an anonymous, on-line
survey of women in the U.S., ages 18-44 years, who took Plan B after
January 2007. This consumer survey will help us learn more about
women's experiences getting and taking Plan B. The results will be
used to help make the medication more accessible to women who need it.

Plus when you're done you can enter a drawing to win a $150 Target gift certificate.

(By the way, if you have a Target card and haven't signed up to have them give X% of your purchases to some local school, please do. If you don't have a kid, just pick a random school, preferably the poorest one in town.)

You're welcome, of course, to also post the survey link on your own blog, along with a handy-dandy little button, which is available here. The survey runs through March 31, 2008.

Bitch_PhD reminds everyone to keep Plan B in their medicine cabinet--just in case.

I used it in May for the first time (despite the fact that I have been on birth control for 5 years) because I've always wanted to know what it was like to have a guy come inside, but was always too scared to go through with it.

thanks to plan B, I now know it's nothing special and I can quit obsessing over it.

Haha yeah, that was the first time I let a guy cum in me too.
It wasn't anything special other than being very gooey, but he's special and now and in the future he's the only person allowed to do itwink

Just once. The lady that sold it to me kept giving me this odd look--still can't figure out why...

I do have a rant about plan B...

once they made it OTC, it went from $10 a pill to $50.
And now my healthcare providers won't prescribe it at prescription prices since it's available OTC.

mad

It's free at Planned Parenthood. wink

The odds of preventing pregnancy with birth control are not perfect, so you are not paranoid. If you have a dr or are anywhere near a clinic you should be able to get one for the cabinet. I have it in mine despite being on the mini-pill.

ageism. blackeyed

I am *older* than those they want to take the survey, depsite conceiving while lactating and using birth control at age 42 surreal

Go to Planned Parenthood, you are in California so you can get on what is known as the State Funded Program if you make under 1,750 a month. Or if you are on a type of health insurance then you may have it prescribed and can be paid for by said insurance (e.g. Medi Cal, Blue Cross Medi Cal, Western Health Advantage, etc.)

On the state funded program you can get up to 13 months of a birth control method and Plan B's. Not too mention the fact that we are still offering Birth Control at it's old price and not at the new 900% increase.

It works but i was out for a day......made me sick and in bed.....in CA once you get the pill for the first time...you are in the "system" and can go back 3 more times without a prescription.

I had a bad experience trying to get it back before it was OTC...the bad drunken unsafesex happened on the weekend, and I had to wait a day to get a prescription...then I had to pay over $50 for it cause the place that had it for cheap was closed on the weekends and I didn't wanna wait an extra day...then once I took it, it made me so sick that it was everything I could do just not to puke it back up again. frown Lessons learned in youth. I really wish colleges kept it onhand though.

I've used it like 3 times...and I have one sitting there somewhere in my room...hopefully I'll never need to use it. Poop on the pharmaceutical industry.

funny because target allows its pharmacists to refuse to dispense plan b.

are you serious? do you know any of the details? i wonder what they base their refusals on... hmmm.

It's not a general refusal, but they allow their pharmacists to refuse to dispense plan B if they personally have a "moral objection" to doing so.

Planned Parenthood has also set up a campaign called "Fill My Pills Now" and it deals with Pharmacies that have policies like this. Check it out and see if your pharmacy is on the good list or the naughty list!

the condom slipped off. a friend lent me $50. i went to my local 24 hour walgreens (i called first to make sure they had it in stock), and the pharmacist was super nice and made me laugh. i didn't get sick, or feel even mildly nauseas.
so it's not always a tough experience.

While I have not personally used plan B. My ex has. It worked just as well as my broken condom and her diaphragm.

Which is to say...Have you met my daughter?

I am not sure that the term "lifesaver" is either correct or even PC in regards to Plan B.
