Old News From Iraq

Think the Pat Tillman story's bad? At least you've heard of it. In contrast, Lavena Johnson, black, female, and not a football player, is someone I bet none of us have ever heard of.

Pvt. Lavena Johnson, was killed in Iraq on July 19th, 2005. Evidence in the case points to assault and murder. However, the Army has been covering up the killing, calling the soldiers death a suicide instead. The Army has refused to provide the family with key documents, and has ignored the families attempts to find answers in their daughters death.
...
Her face and upper body showed signs that she had been beaten. She had a broken nose, a busted lip, and her front teeth had been knocked loose. The funeral service workers had to repair her face before her funeral. Other parts of her body also showed signs of trauma.

It's impossible to say if her race or sex have anything to do with the story, of course. It's equally impossible not to suspect that they do.

Bitch_PhD says, support the troops--all of them.

Well, shit. I'd better look out.

There's been a lot of sexually assaults and rapes that I'm suprised hasn't hit the media. I'm waiting for that one.

While there didn't appear to be anything suggesting rape in this story, I believe it happens in our military much more frequently than reported.

It's too bad the military doesn't slip some sort of drug into their food that would kill the libido during their stays.

Hey hey hey, there's no need to punish all of us in the service, just because a few...well, most of us aren't worth the breath that we fight for.

I enjoy my libido, and I don't do anything that could warrant a need to potentially harm it.

Actually, it probably happens less per capita than in the same number of people in the average American town.

Either way, slipping us drugs is not the answer. My libido has not caused me to sexually assault anyone, and I know it never will. Since it is not libido that would cause most to rape, since the majority of rape cases are about power, etc and less about the actual sex.

oh please, you and i both know that if the government slipped anything into their food it'd be something to make them sex-nuts and retard-strong.

to make 'em fight harder. *rimshot*

I find this story really disturbing, and even more so disturbing is Marlboroink's comment. Thanks for pointing these things out to the public, guys.

I would hope it would be almost non-existent in the military. I also don't expect cops to rape people either - although I'm sure it happens.

When a person who puts themselves in a position to protect commits a rape, I even more sickened and disappointed than by a regular citizen douche bag.

As much as a rape may be a power issue - the fact remains that a guy is probably less able to rape a woman with a floppy ding ding than he is with a full erection.

I'm in no way a doctor but I watch Scrubs. And that pretty much makes me an expert.

As soon as I read that, a semi-recent news story from around here sprang to mind. The one about a house party where a bunch of teenage boys who raped a girl with a beer bottle.

You'd almost want them to use their dicks, rather than force them to get creative.

And besides, my knowledge of crime from watching CSI totally > your Scrubs-based medicine knowledge.

Soldiers bodies don't need fucked with any more than what they all ready go through. The sad fact is that soldiers are in fact people and although its unfortunate that some people either because of the combat stresses or just the fact that they were shit heads to begin with commit these crimes, it's way more important that they be held accountable for their actions. I believe thats the main point in this story. ARRR!!!

Anything that killed their labido would also ruin their drive and ability to kill. Or something. Anyway, it's not nice to slip people rufies.

A military guy I was talking to at work had this to say about women in the military, and I can't really argue with his reasoning:

'I don't think women should be in the military. Not because they can't do the job, but because there are more or less two kinds of guys out there. There are the ones that have the protect-the-woman ideal engrained in their head, and will risk their lives and others to protect a woman, even though she has the exact same job to do. Then there are the kind of guys who will... well, you know. Make use of a woman's body.'

I thought it was nice of him not to say 'rape and beat' but that's pretty much what he was getting at. Stories like this just drive his point home. whatever

Why, from what I can see presented here, is the only media outlet covering this a local news station? She may be a black female, and we know that is less likely to get as much press as someone like Jessica Lynch, but if even half the evidence this article presents is true, every news channel in the country should be covering this. It would be a huge story for them, despite her not being a football player. What's the deal?

One strange fact was that Lavena was apparently abused, physically, and the autopsy didn't address the physical trauma to her body.

Military documents also show no apparent indication of suicide, her company commander wrote that Johnson was clearly happy and healthy physically and emotionally, something her mother knew by a phone conversation the day before she died.

Johnson's parents also question how their daughter at 5’1”, could handle a 40 inch M-16 to kill herself while sitting.

In fact, a military laboratory even concluded that based on a gunshot residue test, Johnson may not have even handled the weapon.

Additionally, Johnson's military debit card was never found, even though she used it two hours before her death to buy candy.

No bullet was ever found where she died, and a trail of blood is seen in photos outside the tent. Even stranger, it appears as if someone tried to set her body on fire.

Um gringo, military members are people just like you, and in fact for their job they go out there and die by the hand of some politicians orders, and I know it's beat to death, but the volunteer military that serves and dies does protect the ability to enjoy a sheltered semi-free (got to love bush ruining everything) life.

So please don't talk about us like we are cattle, we're just as fucking human as anyone else.
