I'm all for same sex marriage, but the fact that dude still has to pay alimony is bullshit.

Years ago I read a similar story where the ex-wife married a man. They didn't get 'state' married, just 'church' married so the ex-husband was still on the hook for alimony. He sued, and the judge ruled that the ex-wife and her new husband were in fact married and got the ex-husband out of alimony. I wondered at the time if the ex-wife had married a woman, would the judge have ruled the same way.

She could just give it back.

I know that, politically speaking, it might be a means to the ends of having gay marriage legally recognized, but I don't know if "awesome" is the right word, aside from that his ex-wife is taking some awesomely uncalled-for advantage of him, which is pretty sad...

also, she ought to be called out bigtime by the gay community. they're fighting for their rights (which i'm completely in favor of) and she's using loopholes in the law to take advantage of her ex-husband. regardless of her motivation for doing so, it's definitely got the potential to give the entire community a bad name in the media and, at the very least, it'll give the other side more ammunition in their obscene war on human rights.
