London's 2012 Swastika

Okay, so other than the fact that it looks like a mutated swastika, why is everyone so up at arms about London's recently revealed logo for the 2012 Olympic Games? It's kind of embarrassing that an online petition gathered 48,615 signatures to protest the logo and demand that it be replaced, when the "England is the best country in the World" petition from 2005 only garnered a measly 54 signatures.

But seriously, who gives a shit? It kind of looks like something Picasso might have drawn up and called "guerra," since that is, after all, what's erupted around it. So what if it's abstract and looks like a five-year old designed it? So what if it resembles graffiti, or cost $800,000 to design, or an animated version of it on the website caused "more than 10 seizures among the estimated 23,000 people vulnerable to a photo-sensitive form of epilepsy."

Wait, what? It cost $800,000 to design, and caused a grip of seizures?

Fuck that logo. It's totally a swastika, dude.

It's a seriously screwed up font for 2012 but a swastika, it is not.

At all.

it looks nothing like a swastika.

However, it does look like a man getting head from a homeless woman.

In Pink.

I hate pink.

Doesn't really look like a swastika, but is rather overpriced.

And anyone who thinks that here in the early 21st century that the swashtika can be disassociated from Nazism is tragically deluding themselves.

Dude, why don't you make the same for a fourth time in this thread, I'm sure your argument will win out by sheer force of will.

Anyway, this is the best logo out of all the retarded Olympic logos, most of which have been heavily criticized since the Atlanta games, in that it is more aggressively stylized and clearly stupid than any of the others. I want the t-shirt.

It looks like someone giving head, or a monkey taking a dump

The top right lump should be vibrating, but it isn't.

I resent these Olympics because I am Scottish and a) we are not allowed a team, and b) will be forced to pay for this rubbish. Most of our money heads to London already.

I have no idea where the Swastika thing comes from. And by that I mean that I haven't heard it discussed over here at all.

Nonetheless, ours doesn't look too good when you compare it to the recent historical precedent:

1992: Still cool:

1996: No. But still has a point

2000: Rip off from 1992 above

2004: Classic

2008: Spiritual. Earthy. I think. Good

But, a better way to think about it is the way former track athletics star,
Steve Cram has:

This is when the opportunity for athletics was revealed. Apparently the new logo for 2012 will be hard working and inspiring, will capture hearts and minds and most impressively will motivate people to get up and take part in sport.

So there we have it. What athletics is undoubtedly missing right now is not talented athletes, not injury-free stars or a new man at the helm. It is simply a new logo.

Never before has a logo been imbued with so much performance-enhancing ability. Forget drugs. According to some comments, one look at its energy-giving form and there was every chance of a comeback for the likes of myself in 2012.

So, sorry athletics: it is going to take more than just a funky new image to get the results we desire. On the other hand, at least everyone stopped talking about how much the Games are costing, so well done you clever little pink pointy thing. Maybe you do have some hidden abilities after all. Let me have another look.

(I stole all of this shamelessly from my own posts in SGUK about this)
