Sorry Vegetarians, No More Snickers (or Twix, or Mars, or Milky Way) Bars For You

What's better than a Snickers bar when you need some satisfaction? How about a Snickers bar made with the inner-mucosa (fourth stomach) of slaughtered, milk-fed, new-born cow calves! Yum, yum! What's that? You're a vegetarian and you avoid animal rennet? Well, then you'll also want to avoid all chocolate and ice cream treats from Masterfoods. Not familiar with Masterfoods? Here's a list of the products they'll be making with slaughtered baby cow bellies:

Rennet will now be found in Snickers, M&M, Twix, Milky Way, Bounty, Mars, Dove Chocolate and Malteasers products, as well as the ice cream versions of all Masterfoods' bars.

Awesome! Now not only is your Snickers bar peanutty, nougatty, and chocolaty, it's rennety!

Paul Goalby, corporate affairs manager for Masterfoods, demonstrated his clear understanding of and respect for the vegetarian lifestyle with this explanation:

"If the customer is an extremely strict vegetarian, then we are sorry the products are no longer suitable, but a less strict vegetarian should enjoy our chocolate."

Apparently, "less strict" vegetarians find the inner-mucosa of slaughtered, milk-fed, new-born cow calves delectable, like veal and fois gras. Bravo, Masterfoods, for taking an enormous step backwards. Alternatives to animal rennet are available, but you already know that—you used to use them.

I'd welcome if they learned the difference between vegan and vegetarian. Vegetarians are not affected by this.

This seems like a stupid move. Less people will buy Masterfoods products.

I'm curious to know how many less people. If I were to guess, I'd say "an extremely negligible amount"--hence Mr. Paul Goalby's statement up there, which can quite easily be read as a big, fat, rennet-stuffed shrug.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure it was a response to other people who are uneducated about the difference between vegans and vegetarians calling up the corporate affairs office and shrieking, "OMGZ!!!1!!! WHAT ABOUT THE VEGETARIANS?"

Vegetarians can eat cow stomach lining? I don't understand this statement.

Considering the amount of sugar in them in the first place. it wouldn't matter how much stuff is in it, it is still bad for you.

I'm pretty certain that vegetarians don't eat animals. Unless things have changed since I was last a vegetarian. Maybe it's ok for vegetarians to eat cows now.

perhaps what you meant was that vegans are not effected, because we could never eat those things anywah.

Nobody's arguing that this is horrible because it's less healthy than the alternative. It's probably such a tiny amount of material that it wouldn't really make much of a difference health-wise.

Yet another reason to go (or stay) vegan, that's how I look at it. AND to think about spending your candy money on alternatives made by environmentally conscious & animal-friendly companies such as Tropical Source and the other healthy merchants who deserve our support more than the Corporate Food Giants...

What reason could there be in putting "rennet" in fucking chocolate, i'm not a vegetarian(or vegan for that matter), but that IS kinda gross, and most likely COMPLETELY unneccessary.
