Sorry Vegetarians, No More Snickers (or Twix, or Mars, or Milky Way) Bars For You

What's better than a Snickers bar when you need some satisfaction? How about a Snickers bar made with the inner-mucosa (fourth stomach) of slaughtered, milk-fed, new-born cow calves! Yum, yum! What's that? You're a vegetarian and you avoid animal rennet? Well, then you'll also want to avoid all chocolate and ice cream treats from Masterfoods. Not familiar with Masterfoods? Here's a list of the products they'll be making with slaughtered baby cow bellies:

Rennet will now be found in Snickers, M&M, Twix, Milky Way, Bounty, Mars, Dove Chocolate and Malteasers products, as well as the ice cream versions of all Masterfoods' bars.

Awesome! Now not only is your Snickers bar peanutty, nougatty, and chocolaty, it's rennety!

Paul Goalby, corporate affairs manager for Masterfoods, demonstrated his clear understanding of and respect for the vegetarian lifestyle with this explanation:

"If the customer is an extremely strict vegetarian, then we are sorry the products are no longer suitable, but a less strict vegetarian should enjoy our chocolate."

Apparently, "less strict" vegetarians find the inner-mucosa of slaughtered, milk-fed, new-born cow calves delectable, like veal and fois gras. Bravo, Masterfoods, for taking an enormous step backwards. Alternatives to animal rennet are available, but you already know that—you used to use them.

They ran a review a while back that insisted squids weren't animals.

An IGN review seems like a pretty shitty place to be going for any information on anything related to this.

Anyway. If things like fish-derived oils are a concern (and I'd honestly been under the impression that they wouldn't be), then I seriously respect your commitment to your beliefs. That's more than I'd be willing to put up with.

A) The rennet was only in UK-manufactured M&Ms, and has been stopped. If people would read the entire thread before they started to comment, they would know this.

B) If you're thinking about *vegetarianism*, those juices should not present a problem for you. None of that stuff is "meat". Merely animal-based products, something that's mostly an issue for *vegans*.

Latecomers, how about reading previous comments?

Sometimes I just hate necro'd threads. For a second I thought this old news was new news and that they'd decided to go back to the rennet.

Cutting production costs is delicious.

Yet another reason why vegetarians are more healthy and will surely inherit the Earth when everybody else dies of mad cow disease.
Yay!

And then be eaten alive by animals who don't find a moral dilemma in eating said Vegetarians. wink

All kidding aside, this is fairly gross. That's why, when it comes to candy, I tell people to go Kosher.

It's a sad day, indeed.
