Anti-Drug Agency Not Stoked By 'Weeds' Promotion

Flip through the August 24 issue of Rolling Stone to catch a whiff of an ad for the new season of Weeds, Showtime’s sitcom about a pot-dealing suburban mom.

The network has inserted scent strips into the magazine that smell just like a Phish concert. However, the U.S. Office of National Drug Policy Control seems to think the sniffing will lead to toking. Says Tom Riley, director of public affairs:

"There are more teens in treatment for marijuana than
for alcohol dependence—is that funny?"


Showtime is also distributing brownies (without herbal improvements) in Los Angeles, Boston and New York to take care of the inevitable munchies. No complaints yet from obesity watchdog groups.

The season premiere of Weeds airs tonight.

I'd be willing to bet that for most teens Marijuana is as easy or easier to get than alcohol.

Damn I wish I had Showtime so I could watch this show.

Last month there was a really interesting thread about the relative risks of different drugs. Sadly it didn't go anywhere frown

Anti drug people are so freaked out paranoid about what the "next thing" that's going to make kids start toking up even more, you'd think they were the ones getting high.

Can you imagine using the new Rolling Stone to roll a joint? You can get high while smoking a paper that smells like you were already getting high.

P.S. The only time I wish I had Showtime so I could catch this show.
