Three Years Later, Shock and Awe Hits Home

This weekend marks the third anniversary of the U.S. "Shock and Awe" Invasion of Iraq, and war protestors will be organizing locally-coordinated demonstrations across the country. This is a new approach for anti-war activists, who are largely opting to "hit home" with their message, rather than targeting Washington D.C. en masse.

Demonstrations of varying sizes will be held in over 500 towns, enabling the participation of potential protestors who might not otherwise be able to attend a distant event.

A.N.S.W.E.R., a coalition of hundreds of organizations in opposition to the war, has declared March 18 - 20 Global Days of Action, and is calling for youth and students to organize and/or attend events in their home cities and towns.

Of course, it isn't only anti-war activists who will be spreading their message over the weekend. Free Republic, a conservative Internet based discussion forum co-headed by Kristinn Taylor, will be out and about to protest the protestors.

And here I thought the anti-war movement, such as it is, would never find a cohesive voice or strategy. Better late than never, I suppose.

but it's soooo hard to FIND a focal point, what, with so many scandals going on... which can they rally behind????

I've always said they should rally behind them ALL!!
"So many scandals, so little time" or "Many Scandals, One Solution: The Democratic Party" or something like that... ARRR!!!

Agreed...Democrats aren't the opposition party, they're more of a sidenote. If we want to change anything we have to do it ourselves. However, theres something good on TV right now...and I am really lazy biggrin

I'll be sure to miss out.
