Please Sir, May I Have Another Daddy?

From coast to Catholic coast yesterday, Archdioceses were considering putting an end to their adoption services. In both Massachusetts and California, where state law requires the recognition of gay parents, Bishops struggled to choose between church teachings and state anti-discrimination legislation—ultimately going with faith. After unsuccessfully seeking an exemption from the law, Archbishop Sean O'Malley officially withdrew Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Boston from social work involving adoption. In California, Brian Cahill, executive director of Catholic Charities in San Francisco, is worried that events in Boston might require his agency to halt adoption services, as well.
