"X-Men 3: The Last Stand" Trailer Out

The latest installment of the X-Men series, The Last Stand will be released on May 26. For those you curious to see what exactly Brett Ratner has in store, be sure to check out the trailer.

In X-Men: The Last Stand, the final chapter in the X-Men motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human.

Egotastic weighs in on the trailer:

The story seems intense (though borrowing heavily from Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men). And they pretty much threw in every mutant character ever in the series, but there's just something missing. It's hard to pin-point, but I'd say it's that little bit extra that just makes you jump up and down with anticipation. I guess it just didn't pass the fanboy test.

I think it all boils down to the Ranter Factor. I must say, however, Kelsey Grammer as Beast looks amazing, and I'm fairly stoked to see Angel, too.

Personally, after watching the trailer, I'm a fan of the asian mutant with tons of spikes/needles darting fron his face. Kelsey Grammer as the Beast just looks like a knock-off Scrooge character a la Jim Carrey as Lemony Snicket.

Yep. Iceman decides he'd rather be able to touch someone at some point, I guess. Although if they ever get into an argument, there's no way to tell how she would leave the room.

I'm more than kind of annoyed that they've pushed her character into the "front line" slot that was Nightcrawler in X2. Especially since her power isn't exactly, well, helpful in a fight.

Kitty can totally destroy an entire Sentinel! It was in Astonishing X-Men. She's also pretty much invulnerable.

Plus Anna Paquin is super annoying.

I just want to see Bobby ICE UP!

Exactly, I was wondering if they would ever show him in all his icy glory.

How the fuck does someone whose power is to go through walls and people take down a huge robot? What, does it freak out and think she's a ghost, and trip over itself? I can believe the invulnerability, since if someone punches her, she just phases through it... but taking down a Sentinel by herself is a much bigger pill to swallow.

Of course, in Astonishing, I think Shadowcat's been around a bit longer, learned a lot more. In the movie I think she starts out as just a student, and then when shit hits the fan, Bobby brings her into the official team as a replacement for Rogue.

Of course, I assume her entire point in the plot is the "race to Leech" (yes, they made the kid from Godsend into fucking Leech) stuff with Juggernaut. Otherwise, she'll just sit and make kissy-faces at Bobby and play the damsel in distress.

Meanwhile...

"At last we shall have our revenge."

I just think of friggin' Darth Maul when I see that. I don't know why.

If I remember correctly, Shadowcat could disrupt electronics. So if my memory is still okay, then that's how she could take out a sentinel.

When Kitty phases through electronics, she shorts them out. I'm pretty sure she's always been able to do that.

Wait, what exactly did they borrow from Astonishing? I didn't pick up on that at all. If anything it's borrowing from Ultimate X-Men. Which seems reasonable to me?

The story about there being a cure for mutancy was the beginning of the latest Astonishing X-Men story written by Joss Whedon.

btw, if they were smart they would have had Joss write the script.

It was also a story arc for the X-Men cartoon 13 years ago... (season 1 episode 9, while we're on the subject of nerding it up)

Yeah, that story is so old! Too bad, rabid Joss Whedon fans! tongue

*high five*

Holy crap this thread got nerdy.

I'm not saying I'm innocent, but I hadn't read most of the previous page until just now and suddenly I feel that if I continue the conversation, I should be protecting my lunch money.

If Wolverine's claws can cut through anything, and Captain America's shild is indestructible, what would happen if Wolverine tried to cut through Captain America's shield?

Too bad that result is in direct violation of geek code. Unless the girl is dressed like She-Hulk in her new lawyer outfit.
