"X-Men 3: The Last Stand" Trailer Out

The latest installment of the X-Men series, The Last Stand will be released on May 26. For those you curious to see what exactly Brett Ratner has in store, be sure to check out the trailer.

In X-Men: The Last Stand, the final chapter in the X-Men motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human.

Egotastic weighs in on the trailer:

The story seems intense (though borrowing heavily from Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men). And they pretty much threw in every mutant character ever in the series, but there's just something missing. It's hard to pin-point, but I'd say it's that little bit extra that just makes you jump up and down with anticipation. I guess it just didn't pass the fanboy test.

I think it all boils down to the Ranter Factor. I must say, however, Kelsey Grammer as Beast looks amazing, and I'm fairly stoked to see Angel, too.

Personally, after watching the trailer, I'm a fan of the asian mutant with tons of spikes/needles darting fron his face. Kelsey Grammer as the Beast just looks like a knock-off Scrooge character a la Jim Carrey as Lemony Snicket.

Tangent. Anyway, _DG_ has an idea for killing Wolverine in her pics folder (Nightcrawler teleports a bowling ball into his skull) but it still seems like more work than is reasonable.

Yeah, possibly, but the fanboys can argue against that one-there actually was a comic (I wish I could remember what it was) where Wolvie was obliterated down to a single cell...and his entire body regenerated from that ONE cell in minutes.

Lame. whatever

Actually that was a single drop of blood.

Close enough. Still uber-lame.

....so if Wolverine is split in two, does his regenerative power create TWO Wolverines? Holy crap, Wolverine is actually Multiple Man!

I don't think Nightcrawler's power works that way. I don't recall him ever teleporting something else and not going with it (he'd have to teleport into Wolvie's skull along with the bowling ball, plus he's never been there before so he would be teleporting 'blind').

Nah, all he'd have to do is be holding the bowling ball out in front of him, teleport to standing in front of Wolverine and have the bowling ball wind up inside him.

And whoever that chick is that Bobby dumped Rogue for... so. not. worth it. Who is that, Shadowcat?

Yep. Iceman decides he'd rather be able to touch someone at some point, I guess. Although if they ever get into an argument, there's no way to tell how she would leave the room.

I'm more than kind of annoyed that they've pushed her character into the "front line" slot that was Nightcrawler in X2. Especially since her power isn't exactly, well, helpful in a fight.

Of course, once Hard Candy comes out, we'll all be a little more scared of her.

It was far easier to just see Magneto rip his skeleton from his body.

Did he rip his skeleton out? I thought he just ripped the metal out. I'd have thought that actually taking bones out of his body would kill him, or at least severely handicap him in an unrecoverable kind of way.

And Kitty can short out electronics, maybe they'll incorporate her into a big fight that way.

No, he ripped the adamantium out of his body.

Almost killed him. It burned his healing factor out for a while.

"Healing factor"... that's a phrase they really need to come up with a couple of synonyms for. That, and "berzerker rage".

His skeleton is metal. It killed him instantly.
It was in an X-men spin off. the book hyped up the confrontation between the two and Wolverine died before it started.
I can't remember what comic it was in again.

surreal

Wolverine has adamantium bonded to his skeleton. It is not metal itself.
And I have the series where Magneto rips the metal off out of his body. He survives. There may have been an alternate timeline where Magneto kills Wolverine that way (Ultimates? What if...?) but the only confrontation that sounds anything like that that I know of is X-Men 25.

So then...what does Wolverine do without the metalantium?
Does he just have a piss poor attitude and heal well?
What a lame mutant.
Heightened senses which allow him to track really well, among other things, he's a master of many forms of combat, he is incredibly well versed in many skills (e.g. he speaks Japanese, is a pilot, etc.), and he's extremely strong and smart.

And metal bones? That's just silly.

Bravo to William_Miller for that astute and accurate rundown.

FYI

James Marsden (Cyclops) almost walked due to Superman conflicts and a strong dislike of ratner. But was contractually obligated.

Alan Cummings (Nighcrawler) walked because he hated 6hrs of make-up almost as much as he hated Ratner.

Halle Berry shoulda never had the role. Angela Basset (Strange Days) shoulda got the part.

Luckilly Vaughn, Penn and Kinberg may have had enough of a hand in pre-production to pitch the ball half way.

But alas Ratner will definetly screw it up, more than Rothman ever could dreamed.

Ok. All geek'd out now.

Alan Cummings didn't realize he wasn't in the new X-men film until after the cast it. He was quite surprised by it and had mentioned it on his website. So supposedly he didn't quit, he was just wasn't asked to come back even though after the second ones success they had been in talks with him to reprise his role.
