"X-Men 3: The Last Stand" Trailer Out

The latest installment of the X-Men series, The Last Stand will be released on May 26. For those you curious to see what exactly Brett Ratner has in store, be sure to check out the trailer.

In X-Men: The Last Stand, the final chapter in the X-Men motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human.

Egotastic weighs in on the trailer:

The story seems intense (though borrowing heavily from Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men). And they pretty much threw in every mutant character ever in the series, but there's just something missing. It's hard to pin-point, but I'd say it's that little bit extra that just makes you jump up and down with anticipation. I guess it just didn't pass the fanboy test.

I think it all boils down to the Ranter Factor. I must say, however, Kelsey Grammer as Beast looks amazing, and I'm fairly stoked to see Angel, too.

Personally, after watching the trailer, I'm a fan of the asian mutant with tons of spikes/needles darting fron his face. Kelsey Grammer as the Beast just looks like a knock-off Scrooge character a la Jim Carrey as Lemony Snicket.

MrHateYourself, you're completely right about there being more black actresses/actors out there for roles. I find myself saying that very often when I'm talking about black movies. I'll stop there, because I can rant about that for a while.

Wait, what exactly did they borrow from Astonishing? I didn't pick up on that at all. If anything it's borrowing from Ultimate X-Men. Which seems reasonable to me?

The story about there being a cure for mutancy was the beginning of the latest Astonishing X-Men story written by Joss Whedon.

btw, if they were smart they would have had Joss write the script.

It was also a story arc for the X-Men cartoon 13 years ago... (season 1 episode 9, while we're on the subject of nerding it up)

Yeah, that story is so old! Too bad, rabid Joss Whedon fans! tongue

Also, about Gambit. He could charge anything - I think. He just carried around cards because they were portable and I think they also fit is character.

I've always said he'd be way more effective if he charged people's clothes.

In Ultimate X-Men he charged Wolverine's skeleton. HOLY SHIT!

I always hear those two names tossed about, and Bassett is certainly a good actress, but you know....there's a part of me that also thinks there may be a black actress out there who's NOT Halle/Iman/Bassett. Call it intuition, but I'm positive that if casting directors went looking....somewhere, quite possibly even in California or Canadia, there's a black actress.....

My brother has been saying this ever since the first X-Men movie was announced. I told him Halle Barry was playing Storm and he said "WHAT THE FUCK. Can't they find some other black actress?" She really does seem to be a "stock" actress. Oh, we need an African-American woman? Get Halle Barry! Not that she's not talented, but Jesus. Someone else deserves a chance. I bet they could even find someone with a real accent.

Perhaps the girl from Pirates Of The Caribbean? She's already accustomed to playing unrealistic fantasy roles, having played a black sea captain treated as an equal by white male captains in the 1700s/1800s.

Don't be too sure.

I was going to say. I've seen him charge all sorts of things in various comics, and I barely ever read X-Men. I always assumed it was cards because he was from New Orleans and because they're small and portable. (It also reminds me of Ricky Jay's Cards as Weapons book) I like him more than Wolverine, anyway. You can't kill Wolverine. It's not any fun.

There're actually a bunch of ways to kill Wolverine. In an alternate future, he gets all his skin and stuff incinerated so only the skeleton is left. He probably wouldn't be able to recover from brain damage either, or so I heard.

I don't like Wolverine either, but I thought this was cool.

Oh, hey, speaking of which, am I the only one who hates The Hulk in The Ultimates. Because man, I hated The Hulk in The Ultimates. He's horny and he runs around trying to fuck Betty? Jesus Christ.

Tangent. Anyway, _DG_ has an idea for killing Wolverine in her pics folder (Nightcrawler teleports a bowling ball into his skull) but it still seems like more work than is reasonable. The guy's had his skeleton ripped out twice and he's still alive. Stop that.

I did like Joss Whedon's take on the character, though, when Piotr and Kitty were fighting some giant monster while having angsty X-Men inner monologues. Having established a pattern, the book then cuts to Wolverine who is fighting and has only one thought on the entire page: "I really like beer." At that moment, I liked him.

Yeah, that was pretty bad. Hulk smash Freddie Prinze Junior! I think I like Ultimate Bruce Banner better, though.

Kitty Pryde could maybe phase his brain out too. Also, maybe Doctor Strange could turn him into a flower or someone could throw him into space. And he could be decapitated, couldn't he? I don't think he can regrow body parts with his healing factor. And if burning all his flesh off works, then I'm sure pulling it all off his skeleton would be enough to kill him too. And if I'm right about the brain damage, you could just drown or suffocate the guy.

I wanted to get that arcade game for my house once, too big though. We thought about a straight up trade with the guy for our Street Fighter 2 machine in the living room.

While I do see a small analogy to New Orleans with the cards (very small, Las Vegas makes more sense for cards), I equate the Big Easy with beads. Necklaces full of plastic beads. Chargeable and small enough to port.

A horny Hulk is hysterical. If I really read the Ultimate universe I'd buy more of a Hulk book. This was in the Wolverine/Hulk #1, and as it sounds Wolvie has no legs and while he can't regrow them (or could he..? Punisher rolled him over with a steamroller and he survived that) he can reattach them

I don't think Nightcrawler's power works that way. I don't recall him ever teleporting something else and not going with it (he'd have to teleport into Wolvie's skull along with the bowling ball, plus he's never been there before so he would be teleporting 'blind').
