"X-Men 3: The Last Stand" Trailer Out

The latest installment of the X-Men series, The Last Stand will be released on May 26. For those you curious to see what exactly Brett Ratner has in store, be sure to check out the trailer.

In X-Men: The Last Stand, the final chapter in the X-Men motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human.

Egotastic weighs in on the trailer:

The story seems intense (though borrowing heavily from Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men). And they pretty much threw in every mutant character ever in the series, but there's just something missing. It's hard to pin-point, but I'd say it's that little bit extra that just makes you jump up and down with anticipation. I guess it just didn't pass the fanboy test.

I think it all boils down to the Ranter Factor. I must say, however, Kelsey Grammer as Beast looks amazing, and I'm fairly stoked to see Angel, too.

Personally, after watching the trailer, I'm a fan of the asian mutant with tons of spikes/needles darting fron his face. Kelsey Grammer as the Beast just looks like a knock-off Scrooge character a la Jim Carrey as Lemony Snicket.

Iman and Angela Bassett are way too old, even halle was a bit over the hill for the role. When Professor X first recruits Storm she was like 18 or 19

Uhoh. Inviting fanboy wrath by bringing up technical facts like age....

Halle is a bit out of place, age wise, but I think Jean was the worst age casting-she looks like she could be Cyclops' mother. My prime gripe against Halle is her....nonacting. And her bitching about not getting to fly in the first two, when she flew in the first one.

....and...I think casting an old guy as Magneto is perfect, actually, since he'd HAVE to be old to be a Holocaust survivor....

....just as I don't see any problem with hiring a tall guy to play Logan.

So long as it doesn't reach Batman And Robin levels of suck, I'm happy; I'll be happy enough if it's better than the Spiderman movies.

Flame away, fans! I'm prepared!

And no Gambit? Good! I never liked that character. *runs off to re-read the first Gambit limited series*

Holy shit, I'm not the only Gambit hater....

"Hi! I'm Wolverine, except with a piss poor generic accent, and I throw....umm...cards. Not anything else! Cards! No forks, knives, toothpicks, dice, marbles, paper airplanes, but cards! Don't think I'm a total lightweight though-I wear pink, just like Galactus, and he eats PLANETS!"

Werd. Gambit was never a fav of mine either. The mentality for including him in the X-Men roster strikes me as the same mentality behind the creation of "boy-bands": Let's make a male character that's threatening, so he'll seem tough, but not too threatening so little girlies will like him, as well.

Cyclops and Wolverine more than adequately fill the role he's trying to weasel his way into.

Regarding X3 - I'm really scared. However, Singer and Ratner are said to have communicated before and during the shoot, and the same producers are involved in X3 as in the prior two, so there may be enough of the origional crew talking to Ratner to keep that fat bastard on track. We'll see....

I'm with you there. I couldn't care less about Halle's age, it's the fact that she can't act that pisses me off about her choice for Storm.

Storm needs the gravitas of someone like Iman or Bassett regardless of how old they are in real life.

I got a terrible movie hard on from that trailer. I want to make out with all of the mutants....I feel all shakey.

I always hear those two names tossed about, and Bassett is certainly a good actress, but you know....there's a part of me that also thinks there may be a black actress out there who's NOT Halle/Iman/Bassett. Call it intuition, but I'm positive that if casting directors went looking....somewhere, quite possibly even in California or Canadia, there's a black actress.....

Perhaps the girl from Pirates Of The Caribbean? She's already accustomed to playing unrealistic fantasy roles, having played a black sea captain treated as an equal by white male captains in the 1700s/1800s.

I completely agree with you on the fact that there is more than likely some unknown actress who would blow us all away in almost any role. I've always wanted to see Basset play the role since I saw her in Strange Days though. I enjoyed the fact that she was the tough badass character in the movie who spent all her time saving the man.

I doubt it, I just don't think it would translate well. It's interesting to note that one of the only reasons that Marvel finally told his origin was to make sure that Hollywood didn't get a chance to really fuck it up first.

This Wolverine spinoff thing?

I'm not into comics or anything I just enjoy the movies so I have a question about that...

Is Wolverine going to be the only mutant much of the time or is there still going to be lots of other mutants?

[Edited on Mar 09, 2006 by CarnalScavenger]

I would assume there would be at least a few other mutants. One of the nicknames that some of the producers had for the Wolvie solo movie was X-Men 3.5.

MrHateYourself, you're completely right about there being more black actresses/actors out there for roles. I find myself saying that very often when I'm talking about black movies. I'll stop there, because I can rant about that for a while.

Also, about Gambit. He could charge anything - I think. He just carried around cards because they were portable and I think they also fit is character.

I've always said he'd be way more effective if he charged people's clothes.
