"X-Men 3: The Last Stand" Trailer Out

The latest installment of the X-Men series, The Last Stand will be released on May 26. For those you curious to see what exactly Brett Ratner has in store, be sure to check out the trailer.

In X-Men: The Last Stand, the final chapter in the X-Men motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human.

Egotastic weighs in on the trailer:

The story seems intense (though borrowing heavily from Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men). And they pretty much threw in every mutant character ever in the series, but there's just something missing. It's hard to pin-point, but I'd say it's that little bit extra that just makes you jump up and down with anticipation. I guess it just didn't pass the fanboy test.

I think it all boils down to the Ranter Factor. I must say, however, Kelsey Grammer as Beast looks amazing, and I'm fairly stoked to see Angel, too.

Personally, after watching the trailer, I'm a fan of the asian mutant with tons of spikes/needles darting fron his face. Kelsey Grammer as the Beast just looks like a knock-off Scrooge character a la Jim Carrey as Lemony Snicket.

Wait, what exactly did they borrow from Astonishing? I didn't pick up on that at all. If anything it's borrowing from Ultimate X-Men. Which seems reasonable to me?

The story about there being a cure for mutancy was the beginning of the latest Astonishing X-Men story written by Joss Whedon.

btw, if they were smart they would have had Joss write the script.

It was also a story arc for the X-Men cartoon 13 years ago... (season 1 episode 9, while we're on the subject of nerding it up)

I was so conflicted over the first two X-Men movies. Things I loved: Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, seeing characters I grew I loved as a kiddie brought to the big screen, occasional awesome action. Things I hated: Halle Berry as Storm, the oft-dubious scripts, the oft-dubious plots, the lack of Gambit.

I have a feeling the Wolverine solo film will be the best of the lot. 2 hours of Jackman as Wolvie? Yes, thanks.

I heart X-men, so do hope Paramount will take over and make more films after this. Yes, they're not the best in filmmaking we've ever seen, the dialogues and story lines can be weak, but c'mon people, it's X-MEN!!!! What's not to love?!?

And when you give Halle Berry her way (she's bitched about Storm being more of a supporting character since the original X-Men -- she feels that, as an Oscar-winning actress , she should have at least the second-most screentime of any actor in the movie... even though she hates the X-Men franchise)

Riiight, and after she won that Oscar, she did Catwoman. I think I've made my case.

Halle Berry wanted a franchise all to herself because of X-Men and the idea that she wasn't coming back to it (since she also hates Bryan and has spoke out about not coming back if he were to direct any more). That's why she did Catwoman. That it turned out sucky is completely tied to... well, the fact that she starred in it and it was directed by a friggin' one-named man. Never a good sign.

Besides, most follow-up movies from the best actor/actress winners tend to suck. Haven't you ever heard of the "curse"?

Yeah, like Cuba Gooding Jr. for example. He won the Oscar, and then what was that cruise-ship movie? So it makes perfect sense.

.....please don't suck. Please don't suck. You had two great runs, and now you've been raped by Fox and sycophants, but please...be a beautiful baby, not a cinematic abortion.

*sigh*There's always Superman Returns....

Bravo to William_Miller for that astute and accurate rundown.

Halle Berry shoulda never had the role. Angela Basset (Strange Days) shoulda got the part.

Ok. All geek'd out now.

Hell yea! There's also an African model, whose name escapes me that me and my friends thought would have been awesome with the role.

Iman - David Bowie's wife would have been great.

Pioter Rasputin.

Just to make that clear from a long-time x-fanboy (32 years and running).

I can wait for it. I will be there opening day, no doubt about it, but after X2 I can wait for it.

And no Gambit? Good! I never liked that character. *runs off to re-read the first Gambit limited series*

Iman and Angela Bassett are way too old, even halle was a bit over the hill for the role. When Professor X first recruits Storm she was like 18 or 19

Holy shit, I'm not the only Gambit hater....

"Hi! I'm Wolverine, except with a piss poor generic accent, and I throw....umm...cards. Not anything else! Cards! No forks, knives, toothpicks, dice, marbles, paper airplanes, but cards! Don't think I'm a total lightweight though-I wear pink, just like Galactus, and he eats PLANETS!"
