22 Arrested For Smuggling Drugs in Puppies

When a person decides to become a drug mule, it is their decision. A decision usually made out of desperation, but it's still a choice. But to take an innocent animal, and treat them as something disposable is beyond my comprehension.

I hope they throw away the key.

The Drug Enforcement Administration arrested 22 Colombian nationals for smuggling heroin into the United States via various methods, including surgically implanting the drug into puppies, officials said Wednesday.

At least three puppies died from having liquid heroin packets placed inside them and then being stitched back up, DEA spokesman David Ausiello said.

As a meat-eater, I cannot be so hypocritical as to say that all killing is wrong. My point, I suppose, is that a soul is a soul, a life is a life. Neither you or I have the authority to say which is of more value.

No one is saying that it is more valuable.

What I'm saying is that, just as the death of a loved one, or a neighbor, strikes you harder than the death of a stranger, or someone across the globe, so it is with the death of animals like dogs. I would not say that my friend's life is more valuable than that of anyone else, but it would bother me a lot more if she died. Most people have never known a cow, or a horse, or a chicken...but we feel as if we do know our pets. Of course it's because of "conditioning" or whatever, but that doesn't make the feeling any less valid.

I think that the point that answers the criticism above was made in the opening post of the thread. It's a matter of ability to comprehend situations and give consent. A human drug mule still has that basic human responsiblity to not do wrong. I know that most of them are coming out of situations of extreme poverty, and thus might not be as blameworthy as someone who doesn't need the money nearly as much, but there's still a responsibility on their part to at least not do something that causes harm, to others as well as themselves. No matter what the situation that brings them to being a drug mule, there is still a sense where they should know better. Perhaps not enough to really come down on them for doing it, but it's there.

A dog, on the other hand, can't know better. In their minds, the "master" they have is the pack leader, and they will do what they can to serve the pack leader, putting that above their own safety, perhaps. Doing something like this is akin to training them to be in dogfights, or to attack people with no provocation, or other activities. It's perverting that devotion, that trust. That, to me, is a fundamentally evil act.

So I think ther'es something going on here beyond a mere social convention that we should like cute furry puppies. It speaks to a vicious, cold-blooded, and, yes, evil mindset that would do this.

How could you say that?! Haven't you learned that it's perfectly acceptable in today's society to devalue the animals that aren't "cute"? I mean, c'mon, man...a cute little puppy-dog's life is far more important than that of a stinky cow. whatever

I don't know about that. Dead dogs are only worth a couple of posts on a web site. A dead cow is worth about $3/pound.

and im sure dogs arent as delicious

That all depends on how you cook the meat. whatever

500 cats, dogs, monkeys, birds, etc. are killed every day by Huntingdon Life Sciences for pointless experiments. They mostly use beagle dogs because they're the most docile and fight back the least. For one experiment, they kept the dogs locked in cages for a year and force-fed them Splenda every day. After the year, they slit their throats and bled them out so their organs would be easier to dissect.

If you want to eat cows or pigs because you enjoy it and there's no emotional connection, there's probably not much I could say to change your mind. But these are the exact same animals as your pets. There's nothing you can personally do to stop a few Colombians from stuffing drugs into dogs. But there's plenty of information about what HLS does and who they do it for here. If you take anything away from this, at least don't buy Splenda!
