Bibles for porn? Yeah sounds like a fair trade to me.

The mistake they're making here is revealing that this idea grew out of some kind of elaborate joke. This is tantamount to admission of a lack of conviction.

I'd definitely trade any Bibles I had for porn any old day, but I...uh..don't have any Bibles. And unless they're giving you a lot of porn, it's not worth going out and buying some to trade..

Also, I don't know about Black Label, but Playboy is pretty non-hardcore. Some might even say...softcore.

I'd like to see this happening at my uni. Sure, the stunt itself is a bit of a wank, but the sentiment is nice. And it'd give the 30% of my uni who are total fucking religious geeks something to get whingey about (which would distract them from giving me flyers all the time).

Porn for a bible soudns like a damn good idea to me as how many wars have really been faught over porn or sex none to my knowledge now look at how many wars have been fought over religion and the bible just about every damn fucking one, but black label and playboy are not hardcore unless your a soft cock

However, in the scheme of things it just gives more ammo to Republicans in their war on porn. These athiests have made porn not only a temptress, but now a weapon, against religion. Also, it makes hardliners believe that all athiests are hedonistic anti-religion corruptors. Which obviously won't lead to many compromises...

UTSA is known for its constant demonstrations of some kind or another. many of them silly.

there have been a few absurdist demonstrations there.

nothing says funny like a fake demonstration with the front half chanting row row your boat and the back half chanting "hell no! we won't row!"

or homemade signs like "I came to this demonstration and all I got was this lousy sign"

If they were just being smartasses, I would support this. But they think they're making a point. Therefore they're idiots of the same variety as what they're fighting against. The Bible is the inspiration for a great many of the significant pieces of art in history, be it books, music or especially painting and sculpture. It's also the inspiration for a great many acts of charity; most of the homeless shelters in the nation are run by churches. It's not to say that these beliefs don't become hideously ugly too, because they do, but I've never understood the logic that removing The Bible equals a better world, just because something would always replace The Bible. A great many people need to feel like there's some higher meaning to life. There's not one civilization I've ever heard of that didn't have its religious or spiritual beliefs. It could be worse than The Bible.

Apart from all that, though, they aren't changing anybody's minds here. Quite on the contrary, in fact. People who agree with them already like this, and people who don't are that much more resolute in their beliefs. It's this sort of divide that makes it utterly impossible for an atheist to, say, run for president.
