I think one of the underreported aspects of Wal-Mart is how much of their growth has been due to the cooperation of governments with them. They'll find governments in cities willing to give them cushy zoning deals, and even handle some of the costs of construction and give them tax breaks, and put their new Wal-Marts there, along with other things like distribution centers.

So this seems especially laughable to me, since I don't think they'd be nearly their size without the cooperation of quite a few governmental agencies.

Also, Tesco sells better cheesecakes. I call for an investigation into tastiness.

I don't think wal-mart is making a profit in too many places outside the US. THey're trying their hardest to do so, but that was four years ago and things change within four years so I may be wrong.

Have those bastards looked at their own percentages out here in the States? I had no problem with Wal-Mart back in the Sam Walton days. But the damned kids.

When I was living in Austin two years ago, they tried to build a Super Wal-Mart over part of the Edwards Aquifer. Not only would we have had the parking lot of God covering our water supply, we'd also have to deal with the occasional mishap in the tire and lube express.

Needless to say, that shit got voted right out of town. But then I come back for Christmas and find that they just moved it east a few miles, situating it on an old driving range (same as in my old town).

I wish the common people could regularly be as relentless as these assholes. Maybe then we wouldn't be suffering under the weight of "friendly," "neighborhood" conglomerates.
