Don't You Dare Throw That Rock!

THURSDAY AUGUST 4 2005 1:37 AM

Submitted by Synnove. Edited By Christopher.

An 11 year old girl in Fresno, California managed to avoid imprisonment on Wednesday. What on earth could an 11 year old girl possibly be capable of doing these days, you ask?

She threw a rock at an 8 year old.

Maribel spent five days in juvenile hall and a month under house arrest after throwing a 2-pound rock at 8-year-old Elijah Vang, cutting his forehead after he pelted her with a water balloon in April.

Honestly, how many of us thew rocks at other kids when we were younger?

Police responded with three cars while a helicopter hovered overhead, and said they arrested Cuevas for resisting arrest and scratching an officer's arm

I'm glad I didn't have to deal with cop cars and helicopters surrounding me when I was a kid while I threw the occasional rock at douchebag pricks.

The US justice system is so completely fucked up, she clearly deserved the chair.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Michelle Griggs said her office decided to proceed without a trial because of the girl's age and because the Vang family wanted the matter resolved so they can return to their neighborhood "in a way that is safe so all these children can coexist together."

"Also," he added, we'll look like complete douches if we actually try an 11 year old girl.."

I actually crushed a kids hand when I was like two with a giant clump of cement. Poor kid frown I only meant to get the frog away. I was woefully terrified (as smart a kid as I was) that the things spread warts to everyone they came in contact with (thank you mom....)
Go figure. The event still kinda gives me the willies and it was an accident.

But gee throwing a rock at someone. Hope it was at least a small rock. Geesh. Ow. Learn some manners. Please?

Although.... court time, handcuffs, on a nine year old

for doing whats... gee pretty much typical rowdy kid behavior is WAY overdoing it.

well, I threw rocks, but not two pound ones...I remember there was an eleven year old a few years ago succesful imprisoned for doing the same thing and hitting it's mark, killing the child in a painful manner (since the kid wasn't strong enough to do it in one blow he did it in several)

I didn't read the article, but I hope the girl receives some sort of counseling or a nice hefty thrashing if the money isn't available.

it's also possible this isn't the first violent episode the kid had, so the parents thought it was time to show her what happens to adults who don't obey the rules and behave civilly...whatever the reason, hopefully one kid is less likely to bludgeon a child to death with a stone.

"Most, perhaps all, of the blame rests with the parents... And so I ask you this one question: Have you ever tried simply turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?"
-Bender

I really don't think they needed the helicoptor, but I certainly agree that a 2lb rock being chucked at another kid is a serious thing. Yes, we used to all rip pine cones at each other, and those unripened green ones hurt like a bitch, but it would take a lot (or a very well/mis-placed throw) to actually do any serious damage. A 2lb rock, on the other hand, does not require very accurate aim in order to do some serious damage.

Fucking kids.

That kid would have gotten the message if she was grounded for a couple weeks. I don't know if it was necessary to call in the cops.

If you ask me it sounds like to teach the kid a lesson some crazy lady called it in and the police responded in that typical "teach a youngster a lesson" that costs about 15 grand.

problem is, its still assault, and it is still a weapon, two kids in Australia killed a guy with a rock from a bridge, they were mucking around, dropping rocks off a bridge above a freeway, and one went through a windscreen and killed a guy.

Was what she did wrong? Yes.

Should she be punished (by her parents)? Yes.

Should she be made to appologize to the other kid? Yes.

Was it appropriate to muster multiple police units and a helicopter, and officially charge this 11 yr old with Assault with a Deadly Weapon? I don't think so!

We are sooo overboard with PC crap these days . . . you can be brought up on charges for spanking your child.

Bullshit, I say . . . Bullshit!
