I like Will Smith because he seems to be a pretty decent guy and that's rare in the real world, let alone in the Hollywood scene. From what I understand, his grandmother asked him to not be like all the other rappers and say "fuck" or be degrading toward women. He told her he wouldn't and as far as I know, he kept his word on that. It's a rare person who stick to their word these days, especially against such criticism as you provide. Nonetheless, he continues to do so and many people know it. Generally, most people like other people who they know keep their word and are essentially a good person.

in hollywood you would have to consider him one of the rarities. he's deffinetly not the a-proto typical ass munch you hear about yelling at people on sets and having messy fights with the wife. its quite refreshing not having to hear about someone whos just not taking their shit to seriously and they just have fun with what they are doing and that really shows in his movies and life.

as for your feelings on "i am legend" anything at all is unfounded and find the script.im sure its floating on the internet somewhere (i forgot where i found mine) but it was actually pretty decent. and considering the final movie is always a change from the script its looking to be a pretty good flick without his usual mannerisms people have come to expect from him.

1. The fact that he's not out there trying to look tough and gangsta. There are maybe 3 mainstream guys who do this, and last time I checked, they were gangster rappers. Is his rapping even up for debate? You can't be defending that aspect of his career.
2. He doesn't go all whiny emo rapper like that other guy (what's his face, the one who got pissed at MTV & their awards) who thinks everybody's out to get him. That's the reason, because he's not Kanye West people watch his movies? No one's arguing for his music.
4. His movies may be sucky and he is not the best actor out there, but fuck, he's an entertainer not a life coach on video. Not asking him to be a life coach, merely an actor who doesn't, by your own admission, make sucky films.
5. He stepped aside to let Keanu Reeves play the lead in an ultra successful movie and its shitquels. No, he didn't step aside, he just made a bad call.
6. People tend to like a guy who loves his kids and is not afraid to look corny in the process. Aside from Alec Baldwin, who are all these kid-hating dads?
7. He did look good in the black suit.Yes, he's handsome, I conceded that.
8. He is a nice guy. Whenever he has been here in Mexico, he at least tried to speak in spanish. All broken and bad and shit but he tried. And he didn't refuse to sign shit for kids and grown ups alike. He may seem nice but that's hardly unique. And speaking Spanish in Mexico is called pandering.
9. He's completely populist. Will Smith doesn't care to impress a fancy audience with musical or theatrical background and knowledge, he probably won't release a symphonic version of any of his singles or albums (like, say, Metallica), he just delivers the so-so goods and if you like it, so much the better for him, you and everyone. Are you now proving my point?

because he seems unscathed by his popularity (whether deserved or not) and he is a family man -that is fucking sexxxy. not to mention even though his rapping sux ass he refuses to boost his myspace hits (or however celebs nowadays gauge their popularity) by cursing, or being sexually explicit in his lyrics. a man of moral conviction is sexxxy as hell. and im not saying this cuz im a bible beating witch burner.... i swear constantly and LOVE mickey avalon and other grotesque and explicit artists..... i simply dont hate on the ones that arent.

You don't have to like or understand why Will Smith is popular. You need to understand why he is popular. The simplest of simple answers was in your own rant: "middle-of-the-roadness." How "middle-of-the-roadness" everything is in the US? Every aspect of the new (new is key here) american dream is about not pushing boundaries, but catering to the masses; as many of them as you can! Will Smith? I don't know him so I can't say I like him or not. He has acted in some movies that I find entertaining (some good) and has acted in some that I find abysmal. That's entertainment! ... That's life!
