9 Reasons Why “The Office’s” John Krasinski Would Choose to Star in a Robin Williams Movie

John Krasinski is a super-talented, hilarious actor at probably the peak of his career. He stars on an ultra-funny, critically acclaimed NBC sitcom. The one that isn’t "30 Rock." He’s also quite the looker, if the majority of women in this country are to be believed.

I state all this to show that John has his pick of just about any project on Earth… and yet, here he is, risking it all to star in a Robin William’s movie. License To Wed will do more harm to the institution of marriage than any 50 gay unions. (Cue Robin William’s gay voice) Oh, and if you’re in a fight with your eyes and ears, be sure to check out the trailer.

This choice is mind-bogglingly hard to fathom. And so, I’m examining every possible angle, no matter how preposterous, in order to get to the bottom of his decision. I will also post odds on each potential reason.

9) Robin Williams is a hilarious, genius-level comic and it would be an honor to star in a movie with him.

No. See above “no matter how preposterous.” ODDS: 10,000-1

8) John Krasinski thinks Robin Williams is funny.

Seems unlikely. As I stated earlier, John’s funny. Funny usually recognizes other funny. If he were some sort of “broad, physical,” comic or even an “obnoxious impressions,” type performer, I could see there being a blind spot. However his comedy runs towards the “subtle, clever," variety and he seems fairly savvy. ODDS: 50-1

7) Someone John respects comedically thinks Robin Williams is funny and recommended that John do the movie.

No evidence to suggest a person like this exists. No record of John befriending anyone absent from the planet since the late '70s. Unlikely that John is friends with anyone related to Robin. ODDS: 40-1

6) John Krasinski, at some point prior to the filming of License To Wed, was abducted and replaced by a doppelganger with the inability to register funny. This replicant was then switched back out prior to the filming of the most recent season of “The Office.”

On the surface, this is ridiculous (Though, admittedly, not as far-fetched as number 1). Do we even have the technology for this? What would the motive be? Why bother switching him back? ODDS: 100-1

5) He’s not really in it, I misread the poster. It actually stars John C. McGinley, stupid.

I went back to re-check. He’s in it. ODDS: none

4) John finds Robin to be terribly unfunny but thinks the movie will be a hit ‘cause Robin’s a star.

Robin hasn’t exactly been a juggernaut at the box office lately. No guarantees here and I’m guessing John knows it. I’ll save this reason for when John appears in a Ben Stiller vehicle. ODDS: 20-1

3) John wanted to work with/sleep with/canoodle Mandy Moore.

Sounds legit. But isn’t he at the level where he could probably just do this on his own? ODDS: 5-1

2) Robin Williams used his crazy strong, man-ape body to overpower John and physically force him to sign the contract.

Nah. Too many agents and managers would have to have been dispatched in a similar fashion. Robin is too old and broken down to pummel more than a few random people a day. ODDS: 75-1

1) You're just a dumb jerk and Robin is hilarious, LOL, and also leave him alone cause he makes more money than you do!!! And whoever wrote this tHiNg iS sToOpiD and laaame! >frown

Irrelevant. Not a reason. ODDS: none

When I saw the ads for this movie the first time I said out loud, "man I feel really bad for that guy, what an awful first major role in a mainstream movie".

Him being in this movie makes no sense whatsoever. If his involvement in this was at the prodding of anyone he trusts or pays to help him in his career, they should definitely be fired.

If you look around YouTube for anything Office related you'll find a ton of fan made "Pam and Jim" moments set to music. People liked the dynamic, wanted them to get together, so it seems like he'd want to do a romantic comedy. That's not factoring in the artistic integrity part, just going on keeping his fan base while his career is starting. It's possible he could lose fans if he did anything too dark or serious at this point.

Just my opinion.

Thats crazy. The guy could literally star in "Jarhead II" and his fans would still like him.

Why hating on Robin Williams? Didn't you enjoy watching Hook?

Personally, the only thing that would make me like John Krasinski more is if he did an interesting 'serious' movie. I don't really view actors as genuinely being actors until they take on a range of different roles. When someone always does the same thing on screen, that seems more like just re-using one boring stage persona, rather than proper acting. He should get advice from Cillian Murphy on choosing movies; doing a few blockbusters to build his career (like Batman), and then taking on more challenging roles for fun (like Breakfast on Pluto and the Wind That Shakes the Barley). I don't think doing a range of movies alienates your fanbase, I think it broadens it.

Although, in defence of geeky videos of The Office set to music, I got sent this a while back and thought it was cute. (yes, I know that's quite embarassing)

When Robin Williams is in a movie he is much more subdued and is actually a brilliant actor.

I think many people not familiar with his work judge him on his schizo behavior on talk shows like Conan or Leno. I'm a big fan of Robins, but yea..those moments make me cringe.

I'm a huge OFFICE fan and this movie looks absolutely terrible. even so - it's not so hard to see how this sort of thing happens. first - there's a paycheck and the opportunity to star in a film. I don't think Krasinsky has ever had his face on a movie poster and/or his name above the title. Second - the director has done a lot of episodes of THE OFFICE, so I'm sure he personally picked John and convinced him it wouldn't suck. Third - the whole Robin Williams thing is probably hard for a young comedian to resist (even though we can all see with clarity that guy pretty much sucks these days). And finally - it was probably one of a very few movies that timed out with his hiatus from the show. perhaps the only one he was offered. TV actors are lucky if their break matches up with a film's shooting schedule.

there is a chance this movie will perform and still help out his career. the concept is cute and Mr. Williams did manage to turn a similarly smelling pile of dogshit into a modest hit just last year (see RV)...

This list is 417 times funnier than the movie could ever hope to be.

That said, I will still see it in theaters, if only to see Mandy Moore be pretty and likable, and examine how Robin Williams can murder comedy so brutally over and over again. How does he do it? Isn't it tiring?

She's cute. Like a puppy or a kitten or another baby animal of some kind. I try so hard to dislike her, but I can't. No matter how many atrocious movies she makes. And she is churning them out at a rapid pace.

I have a thing for bad romantic comedies. Like, really bad. I can't get enough. It's a sickness. I see pretty much every movie that comes out, actually, but bad DRAMA is a lot harder for me to stomach than bad comedy.

(in my defense, while I subject myself to bad romantic comedies quite I bit, I truly LOVE good romantic comedies. There just aren't that many. Or any. It may have been about 60 years since the last one)
