When I'm Bad I'm Better: Tila Tequila Exclusive!

Tila Tequila is the reigning Queen of MySpace (that is, if you don't count Tom.) Born in Singapore but now living in Los Angeles, Tila has revolutionized the idea of celebrity via the social-networking site and describes herself as "the baddest bitch on the block." Her overwhelming popularity has earned her write-ups in magazines like Rolling Stone and Time and allowed her the opportunity to launch her career as an actress and singer. SuicideGirls hooked up with the fiesty femme to chat about what it's like being a bad girl because, well, being bad just feels so damn good. Tila dished about her new single and music video "I Love U," and gave us a sneak peak at tons of sexy pics up now in Tila's very own SG Gallery. Check out the exclusive video and interview below.

The music video for Tila's debut single "I Love U" — the first music video in history to be shot specifically for cell phones.

Q&A:
Actress Mae West once said, "When I'm good I'm very good. But when I'm bad, I'm better." Can you relate to that statement? It seems like common ground that both you and the SuicideGirls could share a good laugh over.
Tila Tequila: I'm just bad. Is that bad? LOL

West was also quoted as saying, "I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it." Knowing that you were kicked off Friendster a while back (despite your many fans) for being provocative and confrontational, how do you feel about "censorship" issues as a self-described sassy, independent woman? Do you think that censorship has helped or hurt your career?
TT: The media and the masses in general censor so many things that are important for higher learning for our society. When I went to Sweden a while back and watched the news, they actually showed dead people and showed things that we, here in America, would usually censor. I asked my friend why is it that they show things like that on Swedish news and he says because they want everyone to know the truth and to learn from mistakes. With that said, I believe that people who try to "censor" me are definitely causing more "buzz" for me. Everyone loves something that is "bad" so I guess in the end...it's all good.

Tell us about your debut single, "I Love U." What musical influences factored into recording this song? How would you describe the song to fans that have yet to hear it? What female singers did you admire while growing up?
TT: I wrote "I Love U" because I was pissed off. I wanted to write something that most people are afraid to admit. We are all a little jealous and psycho sometimes but nobody likes to admit that. Everyone's always playing it cool like it doesn't bother them but you know it does and you know everyone has a little bit of psycho in them. Growing up I LOVED Madonna and I still do. Lil' Kim is also a beast I would like to work with one day. Everyone else is a twat!

I read an article that described you as "an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, wrapped in a conundrum." How do you usually describe yourself?
TT: I'm mental.

You turned your online persona into big business. How far do you plan on taking it in the future? Do you consider yourself an entrepreneur?
TT: I am not only an entrepreneur with my own online Casino's, websites, merch line and music, but I am also a trendsetter. Everything I have done in the "DIY" style these past few years, I have noticed a lot of others following my footsteps which is great because this generation is all about "DIY"

Tell us about the upcoming Adam Sandler movie that you have a role in...
TT: I had a small cameo in the Adam Sandler movie, "I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY". It was one of the best experiences I ever had! I think after that I would like to do more acting. Then I recently just shot another cool cameo for a Fox sitcom called, "THE WAR AT HOME" I play a girl named "TILA TEQUILA FROM MYSPACE" hahaha! That's going to be a cool episode!

Many refer to SuicideGirls as the punk-rock Playboy. Considering you posed for Playboy and had a great experience with them, how do you feel about people that criticize women for posing nude?
TT: I think they need to go to get their dicks sucked and asses tapped.

Beside your single and music video, what other projects do you have coming up in the near future that you've been working on?
TT: I am trying to become the main spokesperson for a worldwide charity to help children in 3rd world countries. I feel like giving back to the world is very important because not enough people do that kind of stuff. They're too focused on going out and flashing their coochies to the paparazzi when they can do that for Suicide Girls! LOL

What can fans expect your fashion line to look like?
TT: HOT!

Do you ever wake up some mornings and just NOT want to blog or answer fans emails? When this happens, how do you put yourself back in the mood?
TT: Sure....almost everyday. There are so many haters out there and it seems the more popular I become, the more haters start lurking on my page, but then I just get offline and realize what a great life I have and how blessed I still am. So fuck the haters. They hate their lives so they have to hate mine as well. I love everyone.

Wow, it's amazing what people will pass off as talent. I joined SG because I wanted to get away from things like this, and yet, here it is.

I really don't understand her appeal. I've seen her page awhile ago & her some really... umm, sub par music on her page. Now this? Anything to sell a album & to be "infamous."

This interview confirmed every suspicion I had about Tila Tequila.

How very, very disappointing.

She's hot, and bully for her for making her own opportunities, I just wish she had any talent to justify all that publicity she's getting.

Ah, she is living the dream. Moved over from Singapore, got naked, and friended thousands upon thousands of people on myspace.... and now shes an internet celeb.

"LOL"?
Im not laughing.

Being the Queen of Myspace is about as cool as being the Lord of the Dance.

She's very pretty, and oddly enough? I'd probably adore her if she were a porn star or something like that. But as a musician/attention whore? She's just obnoxious.

And that makes me sad. It's like a waste of pretty. ;_;

issues of personal taste aside, i think the whole "evolution of what dictates celebrity" is a fascinating, albeit painful, thing to watch. i think "cult of personality" (though she's not even close to becomming a political figure) is an appropriate way to describe whats going on with tila and everything surrounding these strictly-Internet-celebs (that LonelyGirl thing...or the Kelly "Shoes" phenomenon.) I think the bigger picture surrounding her popularity is interesting and has a lot of people asking questions about the nature of popular culture and how its very much devouring itself right now.

gotta go... im going to go blog about boggers now....

i have to admit i was a little surprised to see tila tequila on SG's top friends a couple of weeks ago....
but when i saw a myspace bulletin that SG was featuring an interview on her and her music video (which i had already painfully watched) i was SHOCKED eeek
she emulates everything i thought SG was NOT about!
i am not hating.... simpy because SHE HAS NO TALENT! and you can tell just by her squeeky, raspy, excuse-me-i-just-lost-my-voice-do-you-find-me-sexy singing and her awful, repetetive lyrics (i would be embarassed to admit that i wrote that song).
SG is a place for SEXY women, who have TALENT, INTELLECT, and something interesting to say....
not this overexposed, overrated, no-talent doll we call, ms. tila tequila.
she can do her thing any way she wants and i don't care BUT i do start to care when she is infiltrating the one place i thought i could go to get away from this pop-culture crap!
she can be seen on myspace and tv, so why don't we just leave it that way?
thanx for your time
biggrin

I appreciate that you're looking for a positive angle, but making our own opportunities is all any of us can do. this chick has the advantage of looking like Hooker Barbie, and the resources to run a self-advertising campaign. there's nothing rare or admirable about yet another skinny, pretty girl getting lots of attention.

It's incredibly hard for me to believe that video isn't some sort of parody.

I kept hearing about this girl and how she got famous on Myspace, but until now I honestly thought she was a porn star.

This is crap for news. At least it's just in the Celebs category, though. If it what she does was marked "Culture" I think I'd get depressed.
