Bored with NBA, Shaq Turns to Life of Fighting Crime

All around wordsmith and gigantic basketball player Shaquille O'Neal has scored one for the Miami heat. No, not the basketball team, but the police.

O'Neal, the Miami Heat's All-Star center and a reserve officer with the Miami Beach Police Department, followed a driver who allegedly crashed into his Cadillac Escalade and tried to flee the scene, the team said. O'Neal and bodyguard Jerome Crawford followed the driver for about five minutes.

The perp who fled the scene turned out to be 18-year-old Emmanuel Cibrian of Tampa, who like many a pro-basketball player before him saw Shaq Diesel coming and tried to get the fuck out of there.

Cibrian, along with two passengers, told police they were driving home from a nightclub when the accident with O'Neal occurred. The men said they did not stop because O'Neal immediately began following them and they were scared — so scared that even when another car struck them as they fled the crash, they still did not stop because they wanted to elude O'Neal, WFOR reported.

Little did they know that O'Neal is an official reserve officer who was sworn in by Miami's police unit in 2005. Shaq plans to become a full-time police officer once he has retired from basketball. It's official if you feel the heat coming 'round the corner, you gotta ask yourself, "Holy shit, is that Shaq?"

He also poses as under-agers to catch internet predators for Miami-Dade police. He has been doing that even before he was sworn in as reserve officer.

It seems like ever story about a rapper or basketball player starts out with them and/ or their bodyguards chasing someone down in an Escalade.

Escalades are standard issue in the NBA.

One of these days someone isn't going to be so frightened of a 7' basketball player chasing after them, and he's going to get his ass shot.

Judging by his recent play (or, er, lack thereof), he's not quite "faster than a speeding bullet" anymore.

He doesn't plan on carrying a gun. He's going to rely solely on his Shaq-Fu.
