RIP Brent Liles: Former Social Distortion Bassist Hit By Truck

Unfortunately, the AP has reported that former Social Distortion/Agent Orange bassist Brent Liles, 43, died last week in a tragic accident after a big rig hit his bicycle.

PLACENTIA, California (AP)—Brent Liles, a former bassist for the 1980s punk rock group Social Distortion, was struck and killed by a truck while riding a bicycle, authorities said Wednesday. He was 43.

Liles was hit on January 18. No immediate charges were brought against the driver.

Liles, who was from Fullerton, joined Social Distortion in 1981 and played bass on the band's "Mommy's Little Monster" recording two years later.

Fed up with turmoil inside the group, he and drummer Derek O'Brien quit the band during a New Year's Eve performance in 1983.

Liles went on to play with other punk groups such as Agent Orange.

The accident happened around 11:30 AM PST last Thursday as Liles entered the crosswalk near a freeway on-ramp. The truck driver, Javier Lopez of Rancho Cucamonga, was infact making a legal green-light turn onto the freeway but claims he did not see Liles crossing. Officers said Liles was dead upon their arrival.

I've been riding my bike a fair bit lately and I always laugh off the idea of having an accident .... this has really got me thinking now. I guess no one thinks this could happen to them.

i don't think that a helmet will help you when you are ran over by a big rig....this happened right by my work and one of my co-workers saw his body....there was nothing that anyone could've done to avoid the hit....
