Kylie Minogue Beats Cancer, Stages Comeback Tour
After bravely conquering breast cancer, Kylie Minogue bounced back and she’s ready to tour. She hit the stage Saturday night in Sydney for the first time since her diagnosis, and proved she’s unstoppable.
Dressed in feathers from head to toe, with an Australian cockatoo's plume on her head, she began her concert at the Sydney Entertainment Center with an overture of her best-known songs before whipping into the single "Better the Devil You Know."
The near sell-out crowd of 10,000 included parents with their children, teenyboppers, bohemians in black berets as well as a large contingent of gay men in pink hot pants and pink boa feathers who over the years have adopted Minogue as an icon.
In May 2005, doctors diagnosed Minogue with cancer, forcing her to replace her “Showgirl” world tour with months of radiation treatment. The treatment left the singer frail and robbed her of her trademark blond locks. She recuperated in Paris with her boyfriend, actor Olivier Martinez, using the downtime to write a children's book, called The Showgirl Princess.
With her cancer in remission, Minogue re-launched her world tour, now called “Showgirl Homecoming Tour.” The show is similar to the cancelled tour, but Kylie admitted she scaled down the production a bit.
"I actually can't do the same things," Minogue told reporters in Sydney this week when she launched her own perfume called "Darling."
"I can't wear the same costumes. How can I do that a year-and-a-half later and feel that I'm meant to be replicating what that was, when I'm not the same person?"
Minogue planned a twenty date tour in Australia, and will head to Europe for several more dates. We wish Kylie much her luck in comeback and recovery.
