Celebrity Self-Loathing is a GO!

They say money can't buy you happiness, but I always assumed that was just poor person talk. Alas, it seems as though the richest people of all are also the most prone to self-loathing. With heavy hearts to match their heavy pockets, some celebrities are so plagued by guilt and resentment for themselves that they cannot even find joy in the simplest bisexual limousine threesome.
Take Hugh Jackman, for instance. Despite the acclaim he's earned from comic book fans for his work on the X-Men franchise (and from everyone else for his work on his stomach), Jackman cannot understand why anyone would care about little old him. Wolverine is evidently so oblivious to his positive qualities (he must not own a mirror) that he actually pities the paparazzi who follow him.
In fact, when the actor's chauffeur expressed concern over one particular band of photogs, Jackman seemed unworried and assumed they would soon be distracted by Prestige co-star Scarlett Johansson.
"Nah, I'll lose 'em, because I'm boring. And I was right. They were probably heading back to the hotel going, 'Christ, when's Scarlett going to get up?' I feel for 'em, man, I really do."
Come on, Hugh. You have sex dressed like a superhero. That's not boring.
Then there's House star Hugh Laurie, whose success as the eponymous Dr. House is appreciated by all but himself. When America tunes in to watch the arrogant Dr. Snarky every week, Laurie is instead reading a book or making use of some other archaic means of entertainment. Why? He simply cannot stand to watch himself.
"Not only do I not watch my show, I can't cope with hearing my voice on a voicemail message without getting squeamish. I have a loathing both of the sound of my voice and of my visage."
Actors aren't the only celebrities who hate themselves, though, as musicians have proven themselves quite capable of it as well.
Tom Delonge, best known for his work as guitarist/singer in Blink 182 and Angels and Airwaves, has grown to despise his former self. Three years after the release of Untitled, the album immediately preceding Blink 182's present hiatus, Delonge has publicly disparaged the music he once made with so much love in a recently posted video.
I do not want to be in a bullshit pop band with some bullshit pop songs while you drive your fucking bullshit car and sing along to it like a 14-year-old girl.
Delonge later clarifies that there's nothing wrong with being a 14 year-old-girl, possibly to avoid alienating a large portion of his fanbase.
The saddest celebrity of all, though, may just be P. Diddy. In 1991, Diddy gave a press conference following a post-game stampede that occurred at a celebrity basketball he helped organize. While looking at pictures of himself talking about the incident that left nine children dead, Diddy could not help but notice a sadness and vulnerability in his own eyes that broke his heart. Diddy was reportedly so moved that he vowed to never let it happen again.
NEVER AGAIN!
From that day on, Diddy vowed to always wear sunglasses.
"What happened at City College is the worst thing that ever happened to me."
"I felt such a form of sorrow and remorse and then I saw a picture of myself going through it. I saw all of myself revealed, in my eyes, and that's why I wear shades. It's a protecting thing."
"If anybody looks into my eyes, they see there's just a f**kin' child in there. You see my eyes, you know what I'm thinking. If I'm mad, you're going to be able to tell. If I'm sad, (there's) no way I can hide it."
"Looking into my eyes, you can touch my soul."
Oh actors, when will you learn that you're both exciting and beautiful? Oh musicians, when will you learn that it's okay to make pop punk music and cry in public?
Maybe it's up to us, the fans, to show you. After all you've given us, maybe it's time we finally gave something back.
Take our hands, and we'll show you the way to self-admiration.
