The Price Isn’t Right for Bob Barker Anymore

After fifty years on television, Bob Barker announced plans to retire. As of June, he will give up his “Price is Right” gig, which he held for over thirty-five years. He admitted hosting the show is "demanding physically and mentally."

"I'm just reaching the age where the constant effort to be there and do the show physically is a lot for me," he said. "I might be able to do the show another year, but better (to leave) a year too soon than a year too late."

Don’t let that statement confuse you; Barker said he loves the job so much, he couldn’t give it up earlier. He said he considered retirement for the past ten years, but he couldn’t say goodbye to the “showcase showdowns.”

"I've gone on and on and on to this ancient age because I've enjoyed it," he said. "I've thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm going to miss it."

Barker has shit on the horizon to keep him busy; the host said he would like to do a movie, provided it measures up to his strict "Price is Right" standards.

"I refuse to do nude scenes. These Hollywood producers want to capitalize on my obvious sexuality, but I don't want to be just another beautiful body."

Barker enjoyed a huge following over the years. He first picked up fans in the 1950’s as the host of "Truth or Consequences." He began hosting “The Price is Right” on September 4, 1972, which expanded his fan base. Barker said he is grateful for his fans’ support.

Barker said he "doesn't have the words" to express his gratitude.
"From the bottom of my heart, I thank the television viewers, because they have made it possible for me to earn a living for 50 years doing something that I thoroughly enjoy. They have invited me into their homes daily for a half a century."

Barker doesn’t want his fans to worry; he has several good years ahead.

"I will be 83 years old on December 12," he said, "and I've decided to retire while I'm still young."

And still able to harass the chicks who are stuck working for him, I presume.

That's so incredibly sad... I grew up watching The Price is Right, though I guess he deserves it.

Good job, Bob. Good job.

Plinko was so rare that it was great whenever they did that game...but I still liked the yodeling game better. And the one where you had to guess the price of common grocery store items--I worked at a supermarket for 5 1/2 years so I was really good at that type of thing.

Bye, Bob! You were a cool dude. Have fun in your retirement.

When I was a little kid that was why I watched. That think looked so freaking heavy I always waited for some sort of carnage to ensue from its spinning.
But in all the years I never witnessed even one sucked in mangled old lady or a guy getting his arm ripped off. frown

Plinko ftw!
