Banksy Does Kate Moss

U.K. renegade artist Banksy struck again. The controversial artist copied a Warhol screen print, managing to make a fortune selling it at a Sotheby’s auction. Bansky re-envisioned Warhol’s screen print into a series featuring Kate Moss. A Sotheby’s rep described the subsequent bidding as “frenzied.”

The six silkscreen prints of the Croydon-born beauty, which reflect Andy Warhol's iconic Marilyn Monroe series, prompted frenzied bidding at Sotheby's modern art sale. Originally valued at £10,000 they eventually fetched £50,000; the winning bid coming from a US-based private collector.


Moss was said to be thrilled to be featured in Banksy’s paintings.

Sotheby's representative Elli Varnavides described the outcome of the sale as "spectacular." "I believe Kate Moss was happy about Banksy using her image in an iconic way," she added.

Even if it is of Kate Moss, who is dating the world's most useless excuse for a human being (Pete Doherty of course). But she suits the style of this - good stuff, Banksy! smile

Funny she's so happy about it. Obviously the point of the piece kind of went over her head.
The reprinting is about dehumanizing people through media and image.
Oh well, at least she's happy.

As much as I ADORE Banksy, this is probably the least impressive thing I've seen or heard of him doing. Every artist has bitten off of Warhol's famous prints. Come on, even Apple has this feature in their new Photo Booth app. Tim Gaskin's 'Superstar Collection' beats this by far.

Hardly groundbreaking, hardly worth mentioning.

People are getting so rough about Banksy now that he's such a big deal. His work is still just as wonderfully subversive as ever, but the hipsters knew about him years ago, so they're not up for giving him any credit. And because they have only the fleetingest knowledge—stretched thin as a whisper, no less—of art history, can't begin to realize what an astonishing work this is.

The Botticelli-style painting is pretty good too, but doesn't quite operate on as many levels as Banksy's.

banksy has risen to a level of fame where he's not even trying anymore..

I'm with lil_tuffy on this.

You can't tell me what he did is ground breaking or even subversive! I like Banksy. But there is nothing impressive about what he did with the Moss prints.

And to say that people are getting rough on Banksy because he is a 'such a big deal'...I disagree completely. There is a line between innovative and overdone. Banksy is tip toeing if not jumping to the overdone side. Taking a stunt that was done in 1993 and re-envisioning it for 2006 is something to talk about...and everyone did!
