Madonna in Pheasant Hunting Controversy

Madonna stirred controversy again--not by crucifying herself on stage this time--but instead for for purchasing one thousand French pheasants to be shot on her property during hunting season. Although Madonna gave up pheasant hunting, fellow hunters will pay almost £10,000 a day for the opportunity to hunt on her 1,200 acre English countryside estate.

The singer once experienced some unpleasantness while pheasant hunting, leading to her retirement from the “sport.” While hunting, a bird she shot landed in front of her, bloody and still alive.

She said: "The bird really suffered. Blood gushed out of its mouth. I haven't shot since."

That unfortunate experience will not stop her from earning hundreds of thousands of dollars from other hunters.

Damn. And I was all geared up for another Dick Cheney shooting. biggrin

Really though, nobody bats an eye when somebody stocks a lake full of bass. I personally have more respect for someone who goes out and kills his/her own food than for folks who bitch about how "cruel" hunting is between sucking down bites of a factory-born, bred, and processed meal (do you know where your dinner is coming from?). And perhaps if we were responsible for killing our own food again, we wouldn't feel the need to go on killing each other quite as much.

The article says nothing about hunting for food. And even if it where for food, if these are being purchased and brought to her property then they have already been caught and could be put to death in a less barbaric manner, rather shooting them and have them possibly bleed to death on the ground.

And I don't know anything about stocking lakes with bass, but I heard that fish can't feel pain.. so you can hook 'em and throw 'em back and its ok. Does anyone know if thats true?

No, that's not true...
fish feel pain
Of course they do! That's such a silly myth.

I doubt it. War and crazy-people-on-people violence has been around since long before processed foods. Frankly, if The Crusades had been sponsored by Burger King, you would probably have just as much violence (only with crusaders that are in terrible shape, thanks to The King's one-two-punch combo of chicken fries and a Whopper).

Personally I wish we could give animals guns and make hunting fair.

I'm sorry... but this is quite possibly the silliest thing I've read all morning.

It would really only work for primates and certain varieties of chameleons, since most other species lack the opposable digits with which to operate a firearm.
