Portman and Izzard Vie for "Cabaret" Lead

If you had to choose someone to play the iconic character Sally Bowles from Cabaret, who would you pick: tiny, adorable Natalie Portman, or cross-dressing comic Eddie Izzard? Sounds strange, but the two are vying for the same roll in the London stage production of Cabaret. Of course, Portman maintained the lead.

A theatre source tells British newspaper Daily Express, "Eddie is an inspired choice and looks great in women's clothes - but he's unlikely to go down well with purists. Yet as a Hollywood star, Natalie's incredibly bankable and she's an accomplished dancer. She's also much prettier."

While Eddie may look great in woman’s clothes, Natalie is hotter without them. Sorry, Eddie

Izzard would do wonderfully as Emcee. I'm having a hard time buying Portman as Sally Bowles, honestly.

Thats what I was thinking. I LOVE her to death but the closest I've come to hearing her sing was in the SNL rap skit tongue

Oh and it should be noted that the role of Sally Bowles doesn't necessarily require a top notch singer. Not that I think Natalie works for the role, but I'm just adding that to the discussion.

Oh and I'm still wanking it to the idea of Eddie as emcee. Carry on . . .

It is sad to think that popularity would beat out the better performer... granted, I know little of Cabaret but I know Portman and Eddie (well, not personally). Portman seems a stuck up actress that will want such a role to still seem "artsy" (particularly after Star Wars) while, my opinion, Eddie wants the role to fill some transvestite dream of his. In any case, Izzard should be in this cast. Portman should just get over herself.

If she never did anything other than Leon/The Professional, she'd still be one of my all time favorite actors.

Natalie Portman as the lead in Cabaret ??
About as inspired a choice as Celine Dion doing Edith Piaf.

Portman is pretty (as far as waifs can be), but can't act - sorry, one dimensional.
Audry Hepburn was pretty (as a waif) and could act her little arse off.

Eddie Izzard.
