Stop Looking at Evangeline's Ass

“Lost” actress Evangeline Lilly claims that she was so uncomfortable being wicked-ass hot as a teenager, she prayed to God to make her ugly…or something.

"I spent many nights crying myself to sleep wishing I was ugly because of the way men leered and disrespected me, because they assumed things about my mental capacity or my physical willingness based on the way I looked."

She also says she quit her job as a waitress because of the evil ogling by male patrons.

"I felt like a whore. You feel like they're paying to stare at your ass when you're walking away from the table."

I actually do feel sympathy for her...honest sympathy, unlike those bashing her

God forbid someone have body images as a teenage. Oh, but she's white and pretty. Those people don't have feelings, never mind.

i don't really consider finding yourself the fucking hottest piece of shit since a bag full of flaming dog poo a 'body image'. if you meant body issue, i don't really consider it that either.

Call me a pig, but her being a self involved hobbit-banger doesn't make me want to fuck her any less. I'm just saying.

I know lots of less famous women who often feel the same way. It's not always easy to be attractive. I'm not saying it's horrible either, it just has its ups and downs like anything else.

And I had no idea what her ethnicity has to do with any of this.

In any event, the wuote, which seems to be pretty violently removed from its context, was about some shit she went through when she was young. I was depressed when I was a teenager too, so what? It's not like she does this NOW. I'm sure that she is currently very happy with how she looks, and very thankful that she is beautiful in a society that appreciates that over all else. I doubt she still cries about the problems pretty people have to endure. And if she could go back in time, I'm sure she'd teach her teenage self how good she has it.

But shit, we're ragging on someone for being a depressed teen. Laaaaaame.

We're actually ragging on someone for playing the fact that they were a depressed teen to try and add some depth and sympathy to their shallow celebrity image.

Just to keep it in context.

Wow. You know, I had this same problem when I was a kid. I was just too goddamned hot for my own good. So I covered it up with impossibly thick glasses and shyness. Boys never hassled me for my phone number, and no one ever knew that it was all just an elaborate ruse to keep them from knowing my true blinding and brilliant attractiveness.

"It's hard being attractive" gets about as much sympathy from me as "I can't eat this cake because it's too delicious".

If it's any consolation to her, she has man-shoulders.

Actually, there is no context at all in the original article. It's anybody's guess how all this came up.

Call it an educated guess if you'd rather, man, but I'm comfortable with that quote falling neatly into that context.

I couldn't beat that ... but I would not say no to spanking it.

(hey, if I didn't say it someone you like might have. Then you would have to hate them. So hate me instead)

I bet she hates having so much money, too. It's soooooo hard to find ways to spend it all!

She's not very articulate, but I get what she's saying. The fact that she was a "tomboy" before hitting puberty particularly says something . . . She was a person back then, who could run around and do everything else that other people her age did, and then suddenly one day she woke up with tits and an ass and all that and the whole world changed. It's a shitty, shitty feeling, to realize that in the eyes of at least some of the world, you have lost your personhood and have become an ass and a set of tits instead.

Either she just isn't very articulate, or what she said was quoted too selectively by the interviewer to sound anything other than super shallow (perhaps with the goal of provoking exactly the reaction that you all are having right here).

And the fact that there are a lot worse things than being attractive and being objectified because of it likely doesn't make it feel any less shitty. The whole "Shut the hell up, you could be armless and legless and dying of AIDS in Africa, so what do you have to complain about?" argument is a lame one.
