Bringing the Classics to Hollywood, Posh Style

Oh, good lord. I come home after a hard day of sleeping in and eating bagels and watching National Geographic turtle documentaries, and I expect pop-culture news to be at a certain modicum of respectability. But, of course, instead I find news reports all over the internet that Victoria Beckham is starting a Hollywood ladies' book club. Thanks, world.
The former Spice Girl - who moves to Los Angeles in the summer with husband David and their three sons - is keen to teach her American pals about classic English literature and sees the club as a perfect way to do it.
The 32-year-old star plans for members of the exclusive book club to meet once a month at each other's houses, where they will discuss the book they've been reading.
A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "When Victoria told Katie about a book club, Katie thought it was a great idea, especially as she would love to learn more about British classics.
"Victoria has asked five of her friends, including Jennifer Lopez and Katie, to become members."
Books that Victoria wants to talk about, include Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Sense and Sensibility, as well as tomes by literary giants Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy.
Oy vey. I feel like I need to check with Ms. Alyk about the reliability of the Daily Star, but either way it sounds like a regular MENSA-fest up in this joint. I do feel bad that my initial reaction was to be all elitist about this, though. I'm sure Vickie has tons of insight on what appears be a Freshman English reading list, seeing as they're all British books and.. um... she's British and all. Surely that's credentials! If nothing else, she can talk about how dazzlingly skinny Nastassja Kinski looked in Roman Polanski's version of Tess of the D'Urbervilles.
More or less, I guess it's just kind of refreshing to see those crazy kids trying to get up to something more or less positive and productive (and also not so Scientology-related). Whatever it takes to keep a girl out of rehab, right? Precisely.
