Republican Senators Are Fucktards

On Monday, Senate Republicans blocked a debate on the Iraq war and stopped a vote on a bipartisan resolution that would have opposed Bush’s surge. The resolution was co-written by Senator Warner, a Republican, who then turned around and helped to defeat his own resolution.

At least eight Senate Republicans were going to vote for the Warner-Levin resolution but they were pressured by Republican leaders not to embarrass the administration. They seem to be unaware that the administration is quite skilled at embarrassing itself and also, there’s this little problem about Americans dying for no reason is Iraq. The Republicans filibustered the resolution and a motion to end it failed 49-47. 60 votes are required to break a filibuster, so the resolutioin did not progress to a debate and a vote.

Then the news cycle began. Republicans were largely blamed for blocking debate on the Iraq war in the press. So, what to do if you are a dumbshit Republican Senator with no backbone, who votes against your own beliefs to save face for an already failed President? Send a letter to Senate leaders saying that the war in Iraq is "the most pressing issue of our time" and "urgently deserves the attention of the full Senate and a full debate on the Senate floor without delay."

Really impressive leadership. The letter was signed by the same idiots who supported the filibuster, Warner, Chuck Hagel, Olympia Snowe, Gordon Smith and George Voinovich. It demands the Senate get the Warner-Levin anti-escalation resolution back to the Senate floor. I think the appropriate response is, “Fuck you.” And then, “Sure.”

It appears Republicans attempted to force the Democrats into negotiations and it blew up in their faces. Instead, Democratic leader Harry Reid announced that negotiations were “over.” Suddenly those Republicans who voted against their own views were being called obstructionists. In their letter, they state their intention to attach the Warner-Levin resolution to other upcoming legislation in the Senate. Yeah, just slip it in somewhere. That's an impressive tactic from some great leaders. The idiots also wrote that the

"Current stalemate is unacceptable to us and to the people of this country," and that they'll be exploring "all of our options" to end it.

Here’s an idea: Go back in time and don’t support the filibuster.
