PETA is Fucked
The Senate passed a law in September that eliminates animal-rights activists from protesting by classifying them as terrorists. The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act was passed UNANIMOUSLY by the Senate. Stalin would have been proud, as the law reclassifies non-violent civil disobedience as terrorism.
The law was co-sponsored by dumb asshole Dianne Feinstein and crazy twunt James Inhofe. They claim it will protect scientists, medical researchers, ranchers and farmers from "extremists." But the bill’s language is vague and can brand activists as terrorists for non-violent actions such as blockades, property destruction, trespassing, and the freeing of captive animals. The activists are obviously upset.
"What we're concerned about is an instance… where protesters conduct a sit-in that causes lost profits. While they may be engaging in civil disobedience and have committed trespass, we don't want them prosecuted for ‘terrorism’ where the only damage is lost profits."
Whatever hippie. The House Judiciary Committee is currently looking at an even harsher version that does exactly that: "Non-violent physical obstruction of an animal enterprise" will be an offense if it causes a loss of profits. Hopefully soon we will get to a point where anyone causing a loss of profits will be instantly executed. Profits are very important. The new law also will criminalize any act that creates a "reasonable fear" of bodily harm or death. Vague enough for you? Here is a possible scenario of “reasonable fear.”
"You have a very raucous protest outside an executive’s home. And then you add on the fact that all of these industry groups have been using this ‘eco-terrorist’ rhetoric. And if those individuals are protesting outside of the home and are wearing masks, then that can be seen as menacing. So… what is a reasonable fear in this climate of the war on terrorism and the ‘eco-terrorism’ rhetoric going on?"
The National Lawyer’s Guild is against the bill because current laws, like trespassing and property damage, already cover protesters actions. Writing legislation to target animal-rights activists "sets a dangerous precedent for going after people based on the content of their speech."
So why did twunt Feinstein and asshole Inhofe write the bill? Money.
"Prohibiting the animal-rights extremists’ violent tactics," they wrote, "will ensure that important animal enterprises, like biomedical industries, stay in California, for example, rather than go to India or China."
Good work, kids. Nice to see a Democrat jumping into the "taking away our rights party."
