Bolton Returns

With Virginia Senator George Allen conceding his race to Democratic challenger Jim Webb, American politics experienced a palatial shift. For the first time in a dozen years, both houses of Congress are under Democrat control. Liberals are cautiously partying down with abandon, with some even admitting our insidious, secret program for America.

Meanwhile, Bush is giving the lame duck Republicans a hand grenade to pull the pin from right before they clear the building.

That’s right: John Bolton is back on the agenda. At a Nov. 9 press conference White House press secretary Tony Snow announced that Bush would again ask Congress to confirm the persnickety Wilford Brimley-looking motherfucker as America's ambassador United Nations.

The last time Bolton was nominated for the post was in May 2005, when the Senate Democrats circled their wagons. Key Republicans even got spooked by Bolton, thanks to allegations ranging from sex club visits to willfully withholding defense information from onetime boss Colin Powell. After a Democratic filibuster, the nomination fizzled. A couple of months later, Bolton was temporarily placed in the position by Bush during a Congressional recess.

After Bush met with retiring the retiring Senate majority leader Bill Frist, Republican House whip Mitch McConnell and other Republican congressional leaders, Snow announced that the lame duck Congress has one last job to do: make Bolton's temp gig permanent.

“The readout I got from the meeting is, it was primarily focused on the lame-duck session,” Mr. Snow said at a White House briefing. He ticked off a list of pending issues, which he said included “the nominations of John Bolton and also, if possible, Bob Gates.”


Despite chatter that Bolton's boltin' from the U.N., I'm betting he gets confirmed this time. It will be the death twitch of the Republican Congress. Karl Rove is going to work the phones and ratfuck everybody who needs to be ratfucked to get this through. The outgoing GOP congressmen are very vulnerable right now. In order to get the post-political career book and speaking engagement dollars and get appointed to gazillion-dollar defense consultant company sinecures, they need help.
