Decemberist's Fall Tour and Presale

Before, when we announced the Decemberists' Fall Tour, we didn't have all the details. So let's ignore everything we said before, though none of it is incorrect, and start over.

The Fall US tour in support of The Crane Wife coming October 2nd has a presale. The presale starts tomorrow, Tuesday, August 1st. That's 11 days before the general sale August 12th. The presale tickets are limited in number and sold directly from the Decemberists' webpage. If you purchase through the presale, a dollar of the proceeds is proceeding directly to Ethos, an organization based in Portland providing music and art classes for kids in under-funded school districts.

I never have luck with presales. I always get really excited when I purchase early through the presale, then find out I'm in the nosebleed section. Except with Radiohead, whenever I bought through WASTE the ticket was way better than the general sale, and I enjoyed my place in the venue as though I were a king; I smoted those general sales ticket people's asses.. Nevertheless, I have this theory that during the presale they sell the crappy seats to the crazy fans, and then sell the nice seats to the fans who need a bit more incentive, thereby increasing the overall odds of selling out the venue.

This theory of course doesn't apply to venues where General Admission is the seating method of choice. Nor does this theory have any real basis in studied fact. But something tells you I'm right. Right? Seriously, it rings kinda true, right? I'm not saying don't buy from the presale, because you should help those kids, and my venue is GA anyway, so yours probably is too.
