Listen to Thom Yorke's Eraser
I didn't know Australia celebrated July 4th, but this year in honor of the day Richard Kingshill of the Triple J radio station in Australia will be playing Thom Yorke's solo album "The Eraser" in its entirety from the official release.
If you are in Australia at around 6:00pm, this Sunday, July 2nd, you should tune in and try before you buy. If you've decided never to go to Australia after seeing Wolfcreek, like I have, you can listen to Triple J online. Know that they are actually 14 hours further into the future than we are, and that's if you're kicking it EST. So it'll be like 4am Sunday morning, which is really the same thing as Saturday night. If you're in another timezone, do your own math.
In case you've decided Thom Yorke is infallible and you needn't check it out before you shell it out, you should be aware that Rollingstone gave the record 4 stars. That can't be good. Here's what we like to call in the biz a "snippet" from the review:
It reminds you how much Radiohead thrive on their sense of collective creation -- even at their most downbeat, their camaraderie gives off a life-affirming energy. Yet these aren't Radiohead songs, or demos for Radiohead songs. They're something different, something we haven't heard before. Lieutenant Yorke is asking new questions, looking for clues to the same old mystery: how to appear, incompletely.
I like Radiohead, but life affirming? Uh, seriously? And that last sentence?
If the review is accurate the album is mournful, stark, and angsty at times. So if you're having a seriously bad night, you might find solace in Thom, we all have before. But if you're at a party, it doesn't sound like skinny dipping music.
