Jeans and a t-shirt

All I ever wear is jeans and plain t-shirts. I would like to add a little style to my clothing collection and have a more varied wardrobe, but I just have no idea where to begin. I feel like if I take any fashion risks at all, I will end up looking like the wacky neighbor on a network sitcom. Can you give me any style tips or rules of thumb? Any online stores I should check out?

How does someone with no style or fashion sense go about building a wardrobe?

Well, telling us if you were male or female would probably have helped.

However, you cannot go wrong with basic black.

I was going to say that you also can't go wrong with Diesel, but that's definitely not true.

Check out some programs such as "what not to wear" and "queer eye for the straight guy". They both give valuable tips in regards to what sort of styles you should be wearing according to shape and size. But as Flux indicates, we would need just a bit more information in order to steer you in the right direction!

I recommend watching a show like "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". Don't copy exactly what the hosts of the show do, but shows like that often give out general advice on fashion and style, for anybody. Of course, I'm assuming you're a man.

If you're a woman, don't watch "What Not To Wear", a lot of their advice takes any individuality whatsoever out of style. They do better for men though.

Check out karmaloop.com.

Also go join the fashion group or the street wear group to see what people are wearing.

If you are a guy, try watching Queer Eye for makeover inspiration and wardrobe tips.

Why not just wear what you want. Who cares what other people think about you? If I listened to people back in high school, I'd end up like everyone else on the street, instead, now people see me and see how confident I look and feel in my style clothing, and think, "wow, it looks good on her... I could never pull it off!" It's not the person who can pull off an outfit, it's the attitude of that person. If you look comfy in you clothes, no one's gonna say shit! tongue

take the things you are interested in and make it a fashion. for instance, i'm into electronic music, so i shop online at the record stores for cool clothes that show what i like. what are you into? there's clothes out there for every personality. the point of fashion is to take what you're about and display it with clothes. just try not to be a walking billboard for your favorite corporate company. although it's the easy way out, you'll quickly become the person next to you.

Find a girl that you think is cute or has style. Tell her you want her to take you shopping. First stop, shoes. Shoes are the most important part of anyones wardrobe. They tell a someone just how stylish you are, at a glance.

Failing that, here are some great places to buy clothes online. You can buy most anything from these places and you won't look like an asshole:

SHOES:
Otsu
Vegetarian Shoes
Swear
Chinese Laundry
Vixens & Angels

ETC:
Illig
fabric8
Geoffrey Mac
Karmaloop
555soul
Virgin Threads
Mitten Maker

Assuming you're a man- there's nothing wrong with jeans and a T-shirt. That look worked wonders for James Dean and Marlon Brando (until he became as fat as a cow)! Try wearing fitted rather than baggy gear, it'll make you look less slouchy and scruffy.

I personally love jeasn and t-shirts on guys! Assuming your a guy. But since it seems hard for you to biuld a different wardrobe, why not take the easy route? Throw a mens dress shirt or western style shirt over what you already got going on, and maybe soem different shoes, like boots maybe? Some small changes might be easiest for you. smile

Are there other guys' style that you like? Take bits and pieces of cool things you see and slowly incorporate them into your wardrobe.

I've always been the kind of girl that people say to, "Oh, Coco, you can get away with wearing anything crazy." That's because I started taking small risks, and moved up to bigger things. Baby steps. smile

Jeans and t-shirts can be super hot. Fitted clothes are always much more attractive. Baggy clothes don't show of your hot little heiny. I guarantee the ladies are trying to look at your heiny.
