ok so... it really depends on what you like. what you could do is, if you have a piece of art that you're really fond of, use it as a starting point and create your room around the piece. draw colors out of the piece of artwork to use as wall colors, bedspread colors, pillows, etc...
don't be afraid to add some texture to the room. faux fur, depending on how it's used, (i.e., it could look really good if it were a dark grey faux fur with lighter grey walls, reddish orange bedspread, steel drawers, etc...) can be really fun and look nice. steel, stone, wood, etc... don't be afraid to mix it up. textures are always great to add into rooms, that way the room isn't so flat and blah.
and for an extra splash of color, something green would be nice. a bowl of bright green granny smith apples, or a pan of grass! i love those 'grow your own grass ' things. it brightens up a room a lot. or a nice fern or spider plant could do the trick.
