First and foremost I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you who voted to reelect Bush in 2004. It was your foresight that paved the way for Barack Obama to become the first African American President-Elect just one night ago. Had I known then you had the best interest of myself and the rest of the country in mind, I wouldn't have said some of those things I said about youto your face. I also feel that I need to thank Governor Palin for infiltrating the Republican Party. I kind of thought you were over doing it a bit at times, Sarah, but you pulled it off and I admire your conviction. We couldn't have done it without you.
Seriously, though, going into this year the election was probably the first thing on my mind--even with a new child on the way--and I think that's kind of strained my relationship at times. Standing in line to vote there was this little girl asking her mother if she would come out and watch her play after she finished voting. I think that was the first time that it really hit me how much I will enjoy having a little girl around, at least up until that point that I have to start worrying about boys. I've just found it very frustrating financially that I don't feel like we can celebrate this pregnancy more than we did with Nick's and as much as I hoped we'd be able to. My hope is that with a new direction in mind for our country under Obama, the future won't feel so strained.
We should all be proud that we have a leader in line who actually seems to understand the problems we are all facingor even that these silly symbols you are scanning right now with your eyes have meaning, for that matter. Someone with a multi racial heritage he is proud of that will enable him to more easily connect with those who are put off by the usual upper class white male pedigree that dominated the white house for so long. If even those of you who made ridiculous claims about him in the last few months are willing to embrace Barack Obama as our President, I think you will be surprised with the results. He is an intelligent and well-spoken man and I believe he has our best interests in mind. So this is what the world looks like without George Bush.
