This is the "about me" journal.
27.5 years ago (I only mention it cause the .5 just happened) I began my life as an annoying pain in the ass for my mother, and I have tried not to let up since. I was born at home (planned) in the historic Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis during a blizzard that would not be matched for 20 years. My mom spent 44 hours in labor, and I had the gall to come out forehead first, which is not quite as bad as breech. I promptly peed on her leg. The highlights of my young life include living in Shawnee Mission, KS (just outside of KC), Escondido, CA (45 mins east of San Diego) and Houston, TX (Cypress for those of you who know the area). I attended a number of schools during this time, but the only one of note was the 3 years I spent at the HS for the Performing and Visual
Arts (HSPVA). I studied instrumental and vocal performance, playing the euphonium and singing bass II. I graduated in 1997.
I am not a WASP. Besides the fact that my mother is Scandinavian Catholic, and my father is Irish Catholic, both of them abandoned the church long before I was born. Subsequently, I was dedicated in the Unitarian Universalist Church, and I am part of one of the first large generations of born and raised UUs. I have never and do not ever plan to be baptized. The UU church was good gowing up, I learned about a lot of religions, and was firmly raised in a tradition of acceptance of differences and questioning of beliefs. This was solidified during HS, where much of the support I got, that kept me on track, was the relationships I formed in YRUU (Young Religious UU). My beliefs in acceptance and questioning were joined by a deep belief in spirituality, and learning to find spirituality in unconventional ways. I was elected Co-Chair of the governing body in my district of ~400 youth; I was selected to be a delegate to Gen. Assembly (annual congregational meeting) 3 times by 2 churches, and I was selected by the Continental YRUU office to be a Leadership Development Conference Trainer, whose job was to train district youth and adults in the consensus model leadership and youth empowerment. These days, I don't maintain a significant amount of contact with UUs, I tend to practice my spiritual beliefs on my own (I am pagan, and do not associate myself with any particularly flavor of paganism, though my beliefs may resemble
various aspects of establised Pagan sects).
After HS, I started College at Washington University in St. Louis, left, attended Houston CC and Univ. North TX (ahhhh! Denton!!!!) for 1 semester each, finally earning my Associates from Austin CC. I am now completing my Bachelor degree in Political Economy at Tulane Univ. This is the abbreviated form, I suppose that someday, I might detail his a little more.
That seems like a good enough place to stop for now. I am falling asleep as I type, and it is very distracting. I will continue this tomorow or the next day, I might even edit this one for links and grammar...

Also, the best dim sum in north america is to be found in Vancouver, along with some of the best sushi, but I have no idea what are currently the best places to go for that.
Have fun
