Was at the first preview show of Evil Dead The Musical in Toronto last night, and it was phenomenal. I've seen the production 10 times now (5 in Toronto and 5 in Las Vegas), and is, simply put, my favorite musical ever (and that includes Les Miserables). It's been (I think) 5 years since it was in Toronto and was welcomed back with open arms.
If you haven't seen it, you MUST! If you're a fan of the Evil Dead movies, it's a must. If you're a fan of good, dirty, vile fun, you must see it. In a nut shell, it's a mix of Evil Dead 1 and 2, with a few nods to Army Of Darkness tossed in there, with fun campy tunes and blood... lots of blood.
The MUST is to sit in the Splatter Zone, which is the first 3 rows. The key difference between Toronto and Las Vegas is WHEN you get bloody. In LV, you get a good splattering throughout the show. In Toronto, they hold off and hold off until the finale, and hit you, and hit you hard. In a "homage" to the Evil Dead remake (really, it's a sequel), they literally made it rain blood for a good minute (via a sprinkler system above the first 3 rows). It. Was. AWESOME!
Planning on getting tickets ASAP for a return sometime in late November. Before that, I'll be in Las Vegas for Halloween, seeing the LV production another 3 times. Favorite thing to do, in my favorite city. Can't wait!
