Just a quick entry tonight. I should be doing my homework but this shit has me pretty heated... North Carolina, my current home and the state I've called home for over 20 years of my life, has decided to put to vote by the people an amendment to the State Constitution completely banning same-sex civil unions and marriages. It's already "illegal" here, contrary to mostly popular belief here in NC and elsewhere. What this amendment would do is make it impossible to sue the State government over the law. In other words, once it becomes "constitutional", the state can't be sued for enforcing an "unconstitutional" law. Also, it will allow the state to not be required to recognize civil unions from other states. Meaning if a same-sex couple was legally married in New York and move here to NC their union is no longer legal, meaning no rights as a married couple. CAN WE SAY BULLSHIT?! Honestly, I'm finding myself leaning more from "Eh who cares what people do in the privacy of their homes" to "Fuck this shit, being homosexual DOES NOT mean you deserve any less rights than a heterosexual" and I find myself wanting to step up more and become more vocal. Everybody deserves the same rights, that's already been established over the years. So why are homosexuals any different? Obviously the most important issue is the oppression in NC of the GLBT community, but beyond that this is seriously a fucking embarrassment. NC has an unemployment rate of 10.1% as of 19 August 2011. That's a full point higher than the national average for the same time period!!!! A FULL FUCKING POINT!!!! And our legislature is worried about passing a bullshit amendment that has no business even being thought of?!?! Our state government is fucking broke, the people are broke and jobless, our children are getting incredibly shitty education, and all "we're" worried about here is who marries who and who's fucking...

Hell, say goodbye to being a part of the "first-world"!!! Even third world nations have better civil rights for the GLBT community than NC does!! You know who has the same laws that NC has concerning civil unions/gay marriage? North Korea. Yea. Iran. You don't say? Hmmmmm, gotta wonder about that one.
Which leads me to my next subject. I am getting SICK AND FUCKING TIRED of the bible thumping right wing fanatics running around justifying the banning of gay marriage with the excuse of "God" doesn't want it. I'm sorry, but since when did we pass laws here based on what one deity or another liked/wanted or didn't like/want?? Give me one good, logical, solid argument WITHOUT using religion as to why NC should ratify this amendment. Just one. No religion. No "God". No bible. I want a solid SECULAR reason. I'm waiting...... Still waiting....







Well, while you're still thinking about it I'm going to finish college, get my degree, get a job, retire, and you can look at me on my death bed and tell me you're reason. Make it quick though, I don't plan on living all that long. Especially if I decide to continue living in NC. Bunch of backward, hypocritical, selfish, ignorant, close minded neanderthals.
