I thought I'd say a little bit about one of the favorite winter activities here in Northern Maine. You're going to need to dress warm. Bring the needed equipment. And bring something else to do, because there's a lot of down time. First off, when you get to where you want to fish (You're really going to want to be on top of a frozen lake or river. Frozen enough that there's no chance of you falling through), you're going to need an ice auger.
or
You need this to drill a hole through the ice to get to the fish. An ice skimmer is also handy, cause that hole is going to want to refreeze, and you can't have that.
Some people use ice shacks, and some people just suck it up in the cold.
You don't see the holes because the ice shacks are over them. Next you're going to need a fishing pole or a tip-up.
and appropriate bait. When a fish strikes, the flag is released, and you pull the fish in. I haven't done this myself, since I was a kid. I get cold too easily and we never used an ice shack. But we would build a fire and roast some hot dogs. To me, that was more fun than the fishing part.
