@bloghomework @rambo @lyxzen Wow, it's like a topic with me in mind! First off, I'm a packrat. I don't throw things away if I think there's a chance I can use it at some point in the future. While in school, I used to keep 2 inch long pencils, because you could still almost write with them, and there was still some use left in the eraser. I kept every book that I bought while in college. I have them all in a box in the cellar. For almost 20 years now. I've lived in this house for 40 years now. I grew up here. I've had the same room. Maybe 3 years ago, I got rid of all the posters that have been my wallpaper for all that time. My original Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders poster. 4 Heather Thomas posters. A Traci Lords poster. And many more.
This goes hand in hand with my love of collecting. I collect money. All my life, I've always gone through my change looking for old coins and dollars. I have collecting booklets for nickels (complete), pennies (only missing a few), half dollars (have most of them), quarters (most of the way finished) and dollar coins. I have a number of buffalo nickels, mercury dimes, liberty half-dollars, eisenhower dollars, wheat pennies, and old canadian pennies (living on the border helps a lot there). I have old bills, as well. A few silver certificates and a bunch from the early 30's. I also have kept almost every foreign coin I've seen.
I collect bottles. I had a ton of old bottles, mostly from the 70's and earlier. Mostly soda bottles and beer bottles of all shapes and sizes. A lot of brands that no longer exist. I had them all clean up, then kind of lost interest in them. Not that I got rid of them. They're still around somewheres. I collect stamps. Stamps from the 1700's to about when I started college and stopped collecting them. One book for the main collection, one duplicate book for extra's and another book for foreign stamps. I haven't looked at them in over 25 years, but I know right where they are.
And finally, I collect comics. I have titles from DC, Atlas, Archie, Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, Dell, Disney, Eclipse, Epic, Fawcett, Gold Key, Harvey, Charlton, Star, Valiant, and Vertigo. The vast majority being from DC and Marvel. I have a number of the old 10 cent and 12 cent issues, but didn't really hit my stride until the 80's, when I became more serious about it. More serious meaning, bags, boards and boxes, instead of the large box that I would just toss the comics into after reading. If you've seen the boxes used for comic books, I have 24 and 1/2 of them full. It just got too expensive for me around the late 90's or early 2000's, and I stopped collecting altogether. Also the weight of them had warped the floor in my room.
I'm not really sure if this counts as collecting, but I also have tons of books. A lot of history, a lot of science fiction, but mostly fantasy. I have two bookcases full, 2 converted bookcases (they were meant for something else), 4 bookshelves full, various boxes packed away and all my schoolbooks in a box in the cellar. Also thrown in for good measure, I had the entire original star wars figurine collection from the 70's and early 80's, and a large collection of action figures from those times.
