I was just listening to a li'l bit of the Breaking Benjamin's "Shallow Bay" (their best-of album) and all of a sudden Chevelle popped into my head; namely their song "Letter From A Thief". And the story behind the song (page 38 or just search for "letter from a thief" in the site's header toolbar) which you can also read here got me thinking about how stealing music or music-making tools from somebody is probably the worst material thing one can steal other than family photos or unique personal items.
Over the years, I've built a pretty decent collection of albums (200 or so the last time I counted, but more like 230-250 now) and I'll never forget how back in high school, somebody managed to get into my gym locker where my backpack was, which contained my large cases that contained all my albums. I carried them with me at school 'cause I would have my portable CD player (remember those days? how great technology has become, right?) and I didn't want to be limited to just having one CD to listen to all day at or after school (I'm way too big of a music lover for that).
Thankfully, they only stole two albums: my Lenny Kravitz "Circus" and Linkin Park "Hybrid Theory. They stole the albums, but left the booklets. Which is a blessing and a curse. I no longer have the albums (haven't replaced 'em yet, but might eventually, just haven't thought about it), but I have something to remind me of them. A veritable scar in the pages of my hard copies of my collection.
Have any of you had anything important stolen from you? Did you get it back? Did the thief get brought to justice? Did you exact your own justice? What happened and how has it affected you?
