i don't want to question anything / i don't feel that it needs attention

ok, i am so backed up on intentions and wishes right now that i just need to let some of them go so i can move forward.

meaning, essentially, that i have had much more elaborate plans for the series of pictures and music which i will be vomiting out here any minute now. i often have ideas for things i'd like to write and share about, but they seem to only come together in jumbled fractures these days.

i am going to embrace it and sail into the new year albatross free by unleashing this avalanche. for the sense of perspective, some of the older photos here come from a folder on my desktop titled "oct13".

so here's fall into winter over here. thanks for visiting.

oh - and thanks as well for the many birthday, new year and holiday wishes. i will try to have a little more personal touch in the backlog of responses i also have to tackle. smile

Where, where the hell is Bill?
Where, where the hell is Bill?
Where, where the hell is Bill?
Where, where the hell is Bill?

Well, maybe he went to get a sideways haircut
Maybe he went to get a striped shirt
Maybe he went to get some plastic shoes
Maybe he went to get some funny sunglasses

Well, maybe he went to get an air force parka
Maybe he went to get a vespa scooter
Maybe he went to get a british flag
Maybe he went to go mod ska dancing

Well, maybe he went to get a mohawk
And maybe he went to get some gnarly thrash boots
Maybe he went to go ride his skateboard
Maybe he went to see the Circle Jerks

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
i'm still alive. it's just been a busy season of shows, you know? head's mostly just hearing music with its time. i'll be back soon to catch up with you all, i've missed you.

Chris Bell - I Am The Cosmos - wild instability / stubborn resiliency? crying defeat / ringing triumph? a push and a pull...

been a little bit, eh? feels like i've been busy, but doing what exactly is the question... think i'm just letting things slide. mostly in good ways. balancing. calmly.

here's some front porch music for you. end of summer music. music for the wind in the trees. for cold beers in the sunshine. for burning one down as the streetlamps blink on. for stretching out and soaking it in.

Ozark Mountain Daredevils - Jackie Blue - stoned and sexy seventies pap that will get played in any jukebox i stumble across that it's possible.

Fleetwood Mac - Future Games - honestly, this song is the true impetus for this journal. it won't let go of me. it's early morning, it's late at night. it helps me breathe easier. that weird mid-period Mac with Bob Welch has some gems, yo. oJAEflo knows this is the case.

speaking of that dude, he's getting married in like, two weeks or so. go give him some love and noise.

Joe Walsh - County Fair - i know his involvement with the Eagles, plus his general aw-shucks demeanor, keep him from penetrating the usual discussions of guitar magicians. well, he's getting the shaft. Joe plays in raspy, sexy, throaty tones and gets a little more out there than you might know. fading summer psychedelia.

Neil Young - On The Beach - a dark, yearning meditation on loneliness in the crowd. sprinkled liberally with sublime slow motion soloing.

Robin Trower - Hannah - a smokier atmosphere than the front porch. spotlights and sweat, on the bare flesh and the beer bottles. few have come as close to the sound Hendrix wrung out of his strings than this man.

David Gilmour - No Way - the cat pictures beginning now is appropriate - i actually spent quite a few evenings many years ago sprawled on the floor of my apartment on mushrooms with nobody else around but my cat Huxley and this album on the stereo. i built some worlds in the corners of this record. Gilmour's sardonic and resigned sort of phrasing, both lyrically and when soloing - there's no one else that can do it.

for those of you that remember me talking about Huxley in previous journals, you should know that he's doing well. we give him subcutaneous fluids every three nights or so, he's gained some weight, and is just as vocal and playful as ever. he does seem to sleep a lot more now, and quite a bit more deeply - but, you know - we all slow down, and he is about sixteen years old.

and he really wanted me to let him outside while these pictures were happening.

Thin Lizzy - Spirit Slips Away - uh, yeah - try and tell me how i could not include Thin Lizzy in this endeavour? this is just a simple strut of a song, but it lays a bed that Phil and the guitars glide over so smoothly...

Blue Öyster Cult - I Love The Night - it may be chock full of the romantic corniness that make it hard for some to get into the BOC, but goddamn what a beautiful thing it is. and any love song for the night time is made for my mind.

night time on the porch. makes me want to pick up cigarettes again. sound travels farther. the moon is right above our street. music comes climbing out of the windows to lean back on.

love
