Glad you had a great time yesterday Man, I can't even remember the last time I had a BBQ I wish I was still 25, so that I'd have the stamina to go on all weekend, but unfortunately, I really don't have it anymore... I was happily in bed by 10PM yesterday
This is because, on Friday evening, we went to see the Chamber Strings at the Bottom Lounge. Kevin Junior & I have common friends in the UK, so it was nice to talk about good old times... but also dangerous, as we got very drunk... (can't separate the rock lifestyle from the alcohol, can we?) Anyway, if you don't know them yet, you should check them out. They're really awesome and Kevin's a cool guy - the old rocker type à la Johnny Thunders and there aren't many that are still alive.
Don't know if you have heard of the Bottom Lounge before (I guess you probably have because you go to a lot of gigs), as we were told that this place opened only 5 weeks ago. But if you don't, well, it is amazing. It's huge. Basically, this must have been an old factory or something because of the vastness of the space. There are two main rooms on the ground floor and there is an upstairs room that apparently is not finished yet. This place has the potential to become really excellent. Definitely one to watch!
Holy great discovery on that bad, I had never heard of them was living a life less good because of that fact. I searched the you tube and found some other tracks, I liked about everything I found. Once again you have added a band to my heavy rotation list.
Great seeing you and Charlene the other night, thanks!
I remember going to my good friend's dorm room and one of his neighbors was playing "In For The Kill" and i didn't know what to make of it. turns out that guy knew what was going on!
Great song. Who is that? They sound familiar but I can't place them and the more I think about it the more I think they just remind me of some other bands I love. Only all rolled in to one. I thought the band name might show at the end of the video. Are they new...they seem kind of older so I am surprised I don't know them.
I have that recording by way of Metallica from almost 20 years ago, if you can believe that. It's very likely buried in storage, but "Breadfan" was covered by them as the B-side to the "Eye of the Beholder" CASSINGLE I got in high school.
I know! I think I probably squealed. He's one of my favourite bass players ever and his story of how he, D. Boon and George Hurley got involved with music and creating a band has been a constant inspiration to me and reminds me that you just go ahead and do it and that you don't really need someone else to show you how you 'should' do things.
I remember that clip from the Minutemen documentary. It's really, very funny. I love the way Thurston talks about him like it was yesterday and yet with a lot of affection. What a nice guy.
However, my favourite bit in the Minutemen documentary was where Mike Watt was talking about how he was so intimidated by bass the first time he ever saw one and described the strings as being like cables or something, which I liked because I've always thought of bass strings being more like cables than strings.
Should you feel adventurous, consider joining
the Mrs. & I this coming SUNDAY for a more leisurely outing.
