I went to the Walker Art Center with audrey_dean today...

I haven't been able to stop thinking about what I want to do as a video artist to contribute to the pile of dung that is modern art. I've always struggled with what I should do to express myself, and actually do art (whatever that is). Thusfar, I have really only given a bland mix of entertainment for the heavily drugged, or the heavily unattentive.

Part of my problem has been that my particular subculture would be fairly unappreciative of my message, effort, and talent. I've got to do it for me, not them.

See, the Walker showed me one thing: art is being fucked. I've got to do my part to seriously challenge what people see as art, and why. It's blasphemous to ask "what is art", but ironic, since art seems to be about challenging peoples boundaries, etc- blah blah blah... The one boundary that people don't want questioned is the one boundary that MUST be questioned: what is art.

I think over the next period of... well, whenever... I will be working to give my message in a non-pretentious, but still in-your-face, kind of way. If it works for my events- cool, if not- fuck it... it's for me anyway. Maybe I can get published or make a website and get a couple hits.

Step aside Mr. "I shit on a canvas"- naptime is over.

Oh, I enjoyed this entry!

As I said whilest rambling on yesterday, I know you have a lot of strong and creative ideas in your head if you would just force yourself back in there and dig them out. The atmosphere we've both been subjected to in our social lives (surprising how much something so silly can affect us, but it does) has, I'm afraid, taught us to turn off that part of our brains. And the 9-5 office life certainly doesn't encourage creativity.

Here's to your endeavors! I'm sure once you've forced those ideas out they will be great.

What audrey_dean said.

Art is so entirely subjective, it's not even funny. If 10,000 people place value in a water fountain running for an entire month, does that somehow negate the fact that it is wasteful and entirely arrogant for someone to do? "Art". whatever

Thanks for the compliment, I'm very happy to be able to say that I'm published, in some form or another. smile

Ah, well, you know... people make mistakes. We're none of us perfect. It doesn't make them bad people, just people that one may need to avoid when they're acting stupid.

Just look at this crazy lady. smile
