Got a new sound gig at St. Andrew's Hall & The Shelter. Did a couple of nights so far. It's really cool. My first concert ever was at St. Andrews. Smashing Pumpkins on the Gish tour in 92. I was 16. There was a lot of crowd surfing that day. I got tossed up right in front of the stage, was passed along for about 10 feet and then dropped without warning into a small hole in the crowd. The wind was knocked out of me from falling 6 feet flat onto my back and I gasped for air for a minute. I remember looking up when I was about alright and seeing five or six kids circled around. Just past them in vision was Billy Corgan (with long hair), still playing and looking really concerned for the dead kid. Ever since I've always wanted to play Saint Andrew's Hall. Running sound there is amazing.
On a sad note, my old mate Rob Kenna just passed away. He was someone I had a lot of history in common with but had never been close to for really no reason. He was a fellow musician. He was a stand up guy and we never had a quarrel. I always thought of him as one of my people. Tomorrow is his memorial.
He had an album coming out and dates booked for a few months. It was really good. We all lost out. Hear his music. MySpace URL:

I enjoyed running sound for the get together at Alvin's the other night. I am one of the resident sound men there but it was by dumb luck in scheduling that I was working that night. Perhaps at the next function I'll talk to more people. The few SG members that I did formally meet were extremely nice. The bands were amazing.
This Thursday night I'll be at the Lager House with my bands, Pat in the Hat and the Blue Funk, and The Walkers. It's Pat's CD release party. Jeff Grand and half of the Howling Diablos are going to be joining us on stage. They all took part in making the album on various tracks. It'll be a great show.
I got to listen to my copy of the master disk today. Honestly, it's got some audio flaws that I wouldn't have let slide. The rough mixes were a lot better. It is a great album with great material though. The master was already sent to printing before I heard it. What has me a little pensive is that Fat Possum is waiting for the disk too. It's a good label. Hope the master cuts it.

Blog blog blog. Blog blog blog blog. This is smurfy. What is it about the electronic age that has coaxed millions of people into writing journals who would have otherwise been fiddling with something in the back yard? It's actually an old question now but I'm one of those people so it amuses me. I've got the answer in short. You can meet people by keeping a diary now. The audience is a comfy one too. That's it though. No one is talking back so I'm moving on.
I'm supposed to move to Austin with my bandmates this fall when the state of Michigan cuts me loose from my motoring sins. Well today I found out that they are being tossed out of their loft Downtown because a roomate was using the rent money for party needs. One may move five months early. Another was leaving ahead anyway. It doesn't look good. We're in the middle of recording (ever heard that one before?). We've hit a string of great gigs. We have amazing connections here. It's just not a good time for a break.
So I'm spending much time analyzing my options between more school, other music, other work and should I just move anyway? No attachments. No desire for one. I can get a sales job anywhere. The band MIGHT actually regroup in Austin as planned. Detroit sucks... except in the summer. I don't know. I'm feeling like there's a lot to do out there in LIFE and it's time to get going. ..Perhaps move on out, live with my engineer friend, finish the business degree and start a company for those green happy thingy bobbers I thought of. I could market them on SG.com. You'd all love them. I'd give one away to the first girl to do a set with one. Think I'll still play music though. I'll be one of those jerks who can't get musician street cred because he's already made money. Yep. Just got to make the money. Smurfy.

Just spent all day at work and all night writing copy and blogs for my new music site on myspace. Hope the band doesn't get jealous over the work. I'm recording and building things for my solo stuff right now. It's a requirement to freedom. I'm at this point where I believe I should have a song for every occasion, everything worth saying. The day job doesn't cut it. The other band is basically there for an excuse to turn up loud and jam. It's not like it was early on. I get tired now. Need to sleep right now in fact.
