another update from the sg user formerly known as notapervert, which now makes me.. well, I'll let you figure that one out.

so.. yeah.

Productivity was going along quite swimmingly, as I got a massive happy-boost from Coachella (picture extravaganza in the giant spoiler below). A funk was entered into, during which time I turned to activities consisting entirely of repetative tasks: cleaning the apartment, sorting cds, backing up computer files, and over the past few days, building a wall from jagged chunks of junked concrete.

For her senior project, a friend has constructed a performance space in conjuction with the display for her project. It's an architecture senior project that proposes to use the Alameda naval air station for youth activities. Kids would spend some time clearing weeds and helping to reinforce and remodel existing buildings. There would also be a performance space for made available for the kids to use to showcase creative artistic expression, be it spoken word, music, or martial arts, like Capoeira.

My friend's performance space working model is made almost entirely of reused materials from various sources in the area, and the seating is basically a pile of those concrete chunks piled up bleacher style, topped with grass clippings and sod to smooth it down for sitting.

It's been brain-numblingly fun and cathartic. Today I spent two hours alone hauling and sorting the chunks to help for easier construction.

Now about Coachella, most of my pictures were of the backs of peoples' heads, but I did manage to get a few decent pictures..

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

There were several structures at the venue. Others included a tesla coil and a transformer-esque robot that transformed from an eagle-scorpion into a transformer-type robot. The transformer had drum triggers and speakers through which the creator would speak every so often. The pictured structure was made to allow people to climb up it and the L.A. Times even had a picture on the front page taken from within the bulb but they didn t allow anyone up it. Well I saw one guy climb up it but only because the security guard ran off to try and hit on some girl.

The Dali-looking creature was my fave of all the structures but I never got the chance to take a better picture of it.

Obligatory "I'm a dork" pose.

Brunching at the onsite camping grounds. The grounds were pretty filthy but they had surprisingly clean showers. A key element for comfortable sleeping -- for you and everyone in your tent.

We went offsite to get some cheaper food as well as to allow me to study for a test I had the Monday after. As this picture implies I didn t get much studying done. I did however make it back to San Luis in time to put my name on the test.

There were so many tents at the onsite campground. I got up on a friend s shoulders to try and make a collage of it all but halfway through it struck me that that was a stupid idea. As I got down I wondered if other people noticed me taking these pictures.

And yes other people did notice and they thought I was a dork as well.

What could I possibly have in my pocket?

Doom. I've got a pocket full of it.

Sunday morning, some people had some boxes out with wristbands as an anti-statement to the multi-colored wristband phenomenon. I'm not against the wristbands entirely, and I could go further into it, but I won't. I'm sure everyone here feels the same way anyway.

I bought some wristbands partway through the craze from a website whose address I have forgotten. They were black and said: I did not vote 4 Bush. Unfortunately, however, they were too big for me to wear, so I just gave them all away.

You should take some pics of the performance space when it's complete. Sounds neat.

Well, you're right. We all have something. I write. That's my bag, though I wish I could do more. I used to be more of a visual artist, but I started psyching myself out too much to be able to pick up any sort of brush or pencil. I did paint something for my fiance for Christmas (I think there's a picture in my Misc. folder). Rather catharctic as well.

And sorry I can't tell you anything about the musical side of Me'Shell's Comfort Woman. I just know how it sounds as a whole. I'm lucky if I can pick out more than one instrument at a time. frown

I really wish I could do the commonwealth nations thing, but I've never heard of it. I've never actually thought of going abroad though...it seems really...lonely.

Just a quick update before i find something to eat for myself...

got a copy of Toast 5.1.1 but it didn't seem to work. Kept opening and disapearing.
Found that i could have OSX (or one of it's components) mount it as a drive for me without toast. Cool. Nope, couldn't get it to install. Maybe it won't work on Mac. Maybe i have to call my other friend who has toast 7.1 titanium or whatever they call it.... frustrated, downloaded Alcohol 120% trial, got Reason 2.5 on my PC laptop. Cool.

Still had usb interface woes....dealt with that for a few hours when almost gave up. Used it's ASIO drivers to control the intergrated laptop soundcard. UNPLUGGED the laptop and ran off battery power. No more terrible noises coming from the sound card. Hrrmmmm ground problems i see? Well, whatever, because for now, i have a version of reason that works. It's got the Malstrom and other newer soft-gear, and i can go out from the headphone jack into my 002 and it fucking works. It fucking works. It's not the best setup, very limited, but it fucking works. I still want to get it going so my G4 is self contained, but for now it works well enough for me to book a gig and fucking play.

Thank you so fucking much dude. This rocks so hardcore. I owe you something, although i couldn't imagine what ARRR!!!

I have a wristband. it's white. it's fashionably concious. actually it's for the ONE/makepovertyhistory campaign. It's sort of a statement although one of my friends brought it to my attention that paying a dollar for a wristband doesn't really change anything and that dollar would be better spent if i just went over to one of those benefitting countries and gave it to someone.

so does this mean you are now a pervert? cuz i don't know if we can talk anymore if you're a perv. whatever just kidding. tongue but for chrissakes man, put that doom back in your pocket before someone gets hurt!

how many days did you camp out at this festival? it looks like you had a good enough time. but me, i am not a camper, i'd have been miserable. i probably would have curled up in a ball in the tent and refused to come out. so i guess it's a good thing you went and i didn't.

i'm surprised they put up all those climbable looking sculptures in the midst of all those people. i'm even more surprised that only that one guy tried to climb on one. what is the world coming to?

Thanks for the tip, I just got an account there. smile

Luckily, no one else in my class told a story like I did. I was paranoid that someone else was going to, though.

Thanks for your supportive comment on my blog about mental illness. What astonishes me is how people will cling to their opinions about mental illness, which arise from a mix of fear and stereotype, rather than acknowledge the scientific research, the facts, about mental illness. I got a lot of shit for posting my letter, and I cried not because of the insults but out of fear for what will happen to people like my brother.

I suppose that's true, but I've never experienced any of the super clingy-psycho guys. I tend to find really nice boring guys or your run-of-the-mill douchebags.

I like your pics. Those structures look really cool. I would have loved to see them close up.

he he, i had a ferret once!

anyway, i'm not really obsessed with the end of the world, and i haven't been able to discern any pattern in my daily life that might be making me have these dreams. i haven't had one in awhile, but one week it was several nights in a row. i do, however, have no doubt that the human race is working very hard to destroy itself. which is fine with me, i just wish it wouldn't take the earth down with it. and i don't believe in any sort of religious ending unless it involves christians and muslims nuking the hell out of each other.

did you hear about the elephants that fled the tsunami? they know. i like to think it's because they're still closer to the earth, psychic-wise. we've "evolved" so much and separated ourselves from the planet we survive on, we've detached ourselves from ourselves. i was thinking that the other day while watching one of our dogs twitch in his dream. they're domesticated, but they're still so close to being wild creatures. i don't know. i'm rambling.

hee hee. Well I got a gift for ya then.
"MST3K's end of series revue"
I clipped it from the Rough cut of Diabolik. During the filming they stopped and surprised the guys with this little clip show from a bunch of previous episodes.
They laugh so hard but it's also a bit poignant because they are filming the last episode ever.
Anyway, enjoy!
